which firmware for an upgraded Gladiator NXT to EVO

Postby JM98 » Thu Jan 22, 2026 14:07

Hi All,

I have a
I bought a Gladiator NXT from October 2020
GNX unit in December 2021
EVO upgrade kit in February 2023

now i am unsure which firmware i should use for the upgrade, I don't find any guidance. Is it the NXT or is it EVO (and if EVO then whcih one?)

Also, for the GNX module which is attached to teh stick, does this get its seperate firmware?

Many thanks!

The EVO upgrade kit does not change the electronics so you would still use the Gladiator_NXT firmware.

If the GNX module is plugged into the NXT controller (with the JST cable) then it is not its own device but becomes part of the NXT controller config.
If the GNX module independently plugs into the PC via USB (it would show as a separate device) then flash it using the GNX_USB firmware.

Thank you jukelo,

very clear, got the same answer from Eduard from vkb europe (i could not log into the forum at first)

Out of interest, is there any benefit of having the gnx module acting seperately form the nxt? (I currently have the 2 attached).
The only downside i find is that the naming of the controller in msfs24 is confusing, where the lefft 2 axis on the GNX are part of controller 1 together with the nxt and the last right most is part of #2 together with the buttons.
Two cables would eb a bit off a pain but clarity in the control settings could be worth it.

MSFS24 is a game that's struggling with virtual controllers (necessary if you are combining more than 8 axes together), so that's one case where having your GNX module on a dedicated USB controller would be beneficial. Some games don't have great controller support (BF6 is another game where having lots of axes on a device causes issues).

Beyond that, assuming a game handles VCs better than MSFS24, it's really just down to cable and USB ports management, and organizing your controls: it might be easier to remember what is 'Axis X' on a dedicated THQ than 'Slider 2' on an EVO + GNX combo.

If you're doing some advanced configuration it is also easier to have everything on the same controller: for example having a button on the Gladiator act as a modifier for a connected GNX module is trivial to do internally. But if they each have their own controller you would need VKB-Link to allow communication between the two, or to add some other layer like Joystick Gremlin.
