new firmware has gotten the configurator out of whack

Postby BigEarth » Mon Dec 23, 2024 7:56

I've been following the VKB YouTube video on how to flash and configure my old Gladiator NXT. I've added a THQ unit on the side. I've had this setup for 2 years or so. Everything has been working ok up until today when I decided to upgrade the firmware and configurator. I've flashed the Gladiator numerous times to 2.18.9, and even re-downloaded the files.

When I open configurator and click on my device at the top, I get this...(Notice the "HID Usage" column. This is how it's always looked in the past):

If I click "no" in the warning box, I can press "default", and continue to calibrate the joystick. Notice the X, Y, and Z axis are listed, and there are 2 sliders at the bottom. The sliders do not function because I haven't configured the THQ unit...but everything on the Gladiator itself calibrates just fine.

If I click "yes" in the warning box, click "default", I get this next picture. The THQ unit is now added to the device name at the top. Notice the "HID Usage" column is different. Item 1 is now "elevator trim", not "X" like before.

If I try to calibrate the joystick at this point, I get this next picture. Everything here functions correctly, but there is no "X" axis. Now there is a drop-down menu.

When I click on the drop-down menu and change to the other entry, "Axis X" is on that 2nd page but it does not move with the joystick.

Just for fun, this last picture shows items 9-16 and their subsequent "HID Usage" names. I cannot change item 1 from "Elevator Trim" to "X" because "X" is not an option in the drop down menu.

So, as it sits, I have no functioning "X" axis and the right slider on the THQ unit is not registering on the test tab. I'm running the programs as administrator. How can I get all of this working properly again? Thanks in advance.

Known issue with 2.18.9. Both older firmwares (e.g. 2.18.5) and newer (2.18.D) will work.
get them here

Alternatively, a workaround is to set the broken HID usage to "shifter".

I went for the 2_18_D and everything is working normally now after resetting. Can't thank you enough! I had my screwdriver set out, ready to start taking this thing apart. Thanks again!
