Gladiator vs Gunfighter IV Throttle&Upgrades

Postby runstickrun » Sat Sep 21, 2024 13:28

I'm looking to upgrade from a logitech xtreme 3d pro and so far vkb looks like the best choice for me, however in doing research I'm finding myself a bit confused as far as upgradability and what's better for a throttle.
I am seeing some things that say the nxt is better since it allows for possible future mechanism upgrades and things like this down below. Also is there any path to using any vkb control panels with gunfighter iv or a plan to implement one in the future?
Please and Thank You

Two y axis clutch screws, easy lock plate, and the spring-between-spreading-arms system makes it a lot easier to mod solutions for having a good center while also facing no spring pulling the stick back in forward movement
The Gunfighter uses a cam system that's makes the mod solutions people have come up with for the EVO physically impossible. In order to engage centre with a cam system there needs to be tension to pull the cam up to the ball bearing

The Gladiator and Gunfighter series are pretty similar on performance and reliability, the difference being that the Gladiator has a plastic gimbal (fiberglass infused) based on pincers and the Gunfighter's is metal, based on cams. There are several options for the Gunfighter when it comes to cams (4 types available: Avia Hard and Soft, Space Hard and Soft) compared to the Gladiator (fixed). Also, the Gunfighter can take 2 springs per cam from the included 4 different sets of springs, compared to the Gladiator, which comes with only one spring per axis from a 3 sets of springs included, so in general the adjustability on the Gunfighter base is far superior compared to the Gladiator.
They both have dampeners on pitch and roll axes, but only on Gladiator you can lock the roll axis in order to use it as a throttle. Of course, an alternative to a left hand joystick used as a throttle would be the classic throttle, the STECS, especially for flight sims.
The Gladiator could also get specific modules attached and connected to the base for more functions. Someone with a Gunfighter joystick could use the same module, but upgraded with a GNX HID Controller board, which would make them an independent USB device; this device can't get attached to the Gunfighter base though.
