I eyeballed it as best I could. Looks level. Don't know if it's going to touch the board or if that matters at all. Gonna put it back together and pray.

Ok... so... was definitely a magnet thing... after leveling it out and putting things back together, it's stable. The only minor thing I think I can live with, is that the Z rotation range has become slightly limited. The VKB Config test shows a left twist range of 4,800 above 0 and a right twist range of 60,000 below 65,535.

Does the magnet have to be seated lower? Or does it look correct in the pic above?

You’ll just need to press the Default button under the Tools tab, then calibrate.

Did that not long after I put it all back together. After the calibration, that's what the values were.

So the question now is, does the magnet have to be lower into the housing than in the picture... flush with the plastic ring to have the proper range?

Show the Profile-Axes tab again after calibration.

Not calibrated, calibrate again so that there are no numbers 255, 255.

I calibrated it just before taking the screen shot. I clicked on Default, went to global and selected Find and Auto Config, went to the test tab, clicked on Start Calibr and moved the joystick around on all 3 axis and rotation. Then clicked on End Calibr, went to profile and took the screen shot.

I just did everything again, and it came up with the same thing. V_MaRS comes up the same. 255/255 with just slightly different Bias and base numbers.

With what I've done to level the magnet...

this is the maximum Left Rot value:

this is the maximum Right Rot Value:

So... it's stable now, and not jumping all over the place like the previous videos I linked, which is a good thing. HOWEVER the question still remains, is the magnet surface supposed to be flush with the ring of the twist module, or raised above it, like the picture of the twist module I posted above?

If somebody could show me a picture of an extracted twist module from a working full range joystick, focusing on the magnet like the one I posted, it would most easily answer that question.

Thanks so far, for everyone's input and help.

You can try to increase the MPL=10 value, write it to the controller with the Set button and re-calibrate the twist axis.
In general, I advise you to update the firmware and the configurator and only then apply these tips if nothing helps after the standard configuration and calibration.
As for the magnet - the gap is not so important. The main thing is that the magnet is clean and does not rest against the sensor board.

I just went into the controller to make sure the magnet was not touching the board, adjusting it a little, and now... it seems I'm back to square one... it's screwing up again, same as the last vid I posted... I already have the latest firmware and config software, from July. I will try to flash the stick again, and see what happens.

I am beginning to think the red/yellow/black wire may have a short in it.

Either that, or for some reason, the sensors are not detecting the magnetic field properly.

*edit*
I just clicked on the links... and saw the different folders, unlike the official download links from the website.

What prevents you from checking the connection of the grip with the base in Test-External Devices? Click on the grip image and the monitoring window will open. Green bursts or line should be no higher than 10% with 0% errors.

Didn't know what that tab meant exactly.

That being said, the green line did not move at all. It remained at 0.

So to sum up... I:
-Was told to level the magnet, and ended up getting it working, but at a limited range.
-Was told that the magnet should not rest against the sensor board, and I adjusted it so it would not touch the board, and it went back to being borked.
-Calibrated it multiple times to no avail
-Flashed the hardware and recalibrated, and still no change
-Used Test-External Devices and the green line stayed at 0.

And so far, the rotation axis is still doing this: https://youtu.be/JvIdtfRFSm0

What else is there to do now?

Did the numbers 255, 255 remain after calibration? If so, increase MPL to 10, Set and recalibrate the twist axis. Screenshot in the studio.
