MWO Does not recognize the T-Rudders MK IV

Postby frbill » Thu Apr 29, 2021 19:22

Hi All,

I cannot get MWO to recognize my new T-Rudders. It will be picked up in Elite Dangerous but not MWO. Windows shows not an axis but a number of buttons, but when I use the Joystick Test Utility it shows the correct rudder. I reset the RotZ Axis in the VKB setup software to Z axis but that did not work. Any help would be appreciated!

Managed to get the rudders recognized by Win10. Still will not be recognized by MechWarrior Online.
Any Ideas why? Thanks in advance.

Try this:
1. Open VKBDevCfg, go to Test/Axes;
2. Move the rudders up and down, see the name of the axis where the slider is moving on the screen;
3. Now go to Profile/Axes/Logical Axes and look for the name of your rudder axis in HID Usage column;
4. Pull the roll down menu for that axis in HID Usage column and change its name to X or Y;
5. Click on the Action tab, then on the Set button.
6. Try again in game.

Thanks for the reply. I did try remapping as you suggested, and still no recognition of the Rudders in MWO. Why windows recognized them but not MWO is baffling to me. Any other Ideas?

Thanks again!

Peace,
Father Bill

I attempted to use Vjoy and Joystick Gremlin to make the rudders work with MWO. For some reason, although the Vjoy Monitor showed input the output was not recognized by MWO. I am not sure what else I can do. If anyone has gotten these to work I would appreciate any insights you might be able to share. Thanks in advance!

Peace,

MWO has a horrible joystick implementation. Better check on their forums, hopefully someone got through this before and could help.

EDIT: Even easier than below, use AXIS: InAxis=GenericUSBController_Axis7, OutAxis=Throttle_Axis2, Invert=FALSE, Offset=-0.5 as input without the need to fiddle with VKBcfg.

Sorry for reviving this, but I finally found out why MW5 (or MWO or MW5:C) does not recognize the VKB Rudder Pedal.

The issue is with the axis being a rotational axis. If you set the Axis in the VKB Config program from RotX to X, you can map it with the mapping file to the x-Axis and it works perfectly.

To change the axis on the rudder, open VKBCfg, go to the Rudder and then "Test". Here check what axis moves when you move the rudder (Potentially Rotation X)
Then go to "Profile", look for the Axis in the Column "HID Usage" and change it to X.

Set it to the rudder.

Now, if you go back to "Test", you should see the change in the axis name. Now, it is possible to access the rudder with

AXIS: InAxis=HOTAS_XAxis, OutAxis=Throttle_Axis2, Invert=FALSE, Offset=-0.5

in the HOTASMappings_Remap-File.
