Gladiator NXT Rotary encoders "too slow" in IL2

Postby Monkee » Fri Apr 30, 2021 13:02

Hello,
I tried to bind the flaps of an aircraft in IL2 to the Gladiator NXT Rotary encoders but when I move the encoder up or down it's registering only a few of the clicks and makes it unusable. If I do the same with a keyboard key, it's 10x faster.
Is there a workaround?

1 - Device model and version : Gladiator NXT Premium
2 - Controller Firmware version : v2.025
3 - Number and type of springs used: no modification
4 - Тype of cams used: no modification
5 - If VKB original software is used, please always mention its version: VKB Device Config v0.91.78
If the question is in regards to joystick/pedals axes, please additionally post:
6 - Vkbjoytester screenshots. Image
7 - Vkbdevcfg-c screenshots. Image

Thanks in advance.

How do you configure encoders? As axes or discrete encoders? Please show settings screenshots.

Sorry for the first uninformed message. I modified the first post with the missing info for tech support.

Here is the configuration ingame, it's set as discrete encoders: Image

Thanks in advance. :)

I asked for screenshots of vkbdevcfg.exe. Physical buttons tab, where you configure encoder.

I asked for screenshots of vkbdevcfg.exe. Physical buttons tab, where you configure encoder.
PS
Flaps are controlled by buttons only in BoS. Some aircrafts (Jak-1) require 1 click. Some (Tempest) require to hold button until flaps will be placed to needed в angle. So encoder use for flaps control is not the best solution. IMHO.
Advice. I configure encoders as axes and use to control radiators, cowls, to trim main (pitch, roll, yaw) axes.

This one?

That's very good to know (I'm new to the sim world  ), can I set encoders as axes only for BoS or do you also use them as axes for DCS and FS2020?
There are several axes options in vkbdevcfg, which one is the one you recommend here?

P.S.: Seeing this advice makes me think that it would be really amazing to have access to mappings that make sense for complicated sim like BoS/DCS/FS or a summary of advices like yours. I recently tried Star Wars Squadron and it was so nice to have everything already configured. For a newcomer it's a big +. Any chance VKB is working on something like that for the hardcore sim?

Once configured axes will work in all applications. You can configure as axes not only encoders, but buttons too.
About ready profiles - if I understood right. Too many people... (c) P. McCartney, too many wishes and hardware configurations. Too many control sets in many sims. For example zoom in CloD may be controlled by mouse axis together with pressed button (note, you may use joystick to control virtual mouse). BoX allow to use axes directly for zoom control, etc. So you must learn your sim to set up joystick controls)
Try to use (not only read))) this User Guide https://disk.yandex.ru/i/NQyFaGLlDT2CYw

Thanks a lot for all the explanations. Yes I was talking about ready profiles but I guess what I meant more is a centralized place for "knowledge that is handy" like what you told me about BoS and flaps. :)

I read the User Guide but I'm still not sure if I should use Fix Axes, AUX Axes or Rel Axes... It's all too technical for me sadly.
