Customs value

I just got a call from Fedex asking to pay the taxes/fees owing on the Gladiator NXT I ordered. The fees were higher than I expected and I asked Fedex what was the declared value.
They said $182.85 USD. I only paid $150 USD. Why are you declaring it higher than I paid??? I'm guessing someone went and converted to CDN but left it as USD.

I don't know where you are, but in the US "customs value" of a shipment includes the shipping cost to get it to you. I've had that confusion myself (ordered a bunch of watercooling parts from ekwb and had to split up my order, their customer service was kind enough to notify me with shipping I was still over the limit and moved another item over from my first order to my spillover order for me).
