Gunfighter MK.I ZBootloader issue.

Postby Thorsthimble » Wed Mar 24, 2021 6:43

I have a Gunfighter Pro MKI. It currently has an MCG Pro grip on it, thought the issue also occurs with the original KG12 grip installed as well. I am using all the currently available software. The issue I am having is when I open Zbootloader to update the firmware, the dialog box shows a stream of read and write errors that seem to go on forever. I let it run for some time to see if it would stop on its own, but it just kept cycling through.

The stick is unmodified and still running the original orange blackbox. It does connect to the computer, and as far as I can tell, all axes seem to work. I believe the firmware currently installed is 1.97. I tried using different USB ports, to no avail. It does recognize the stick in VKBDevCfg.

Open the bootloader through VKBDevCfg better than directly. Put the MCG grip and follow this guide.

I apologize for not getting back to this sooner, work has been crazy lately. Apparently everyone is buying motorcycles this year, holy cow. Anyway...

I'm still getting the same thing. Opened through DevCFG, I get a green light on Zbootloader, but it says device not ready. Then I get a never ending stream of...

**.***: Device Connected
Error write data: ********
Error read data: ********

Whereas the * are numbers. It repeats that over and over again and doesn't seem to stop no matter how long I let it go. I threw in a screenshot of the bootloader for an example of what it is doing and a picture of Devcfg to show that it is finding the stick.

Try a different, couple of versions earlier of the firmware than the one you're trying to flash and see if that works. I have a MKI too and I've found that some versions of config don't play well with some versions of firmware even tho it would be listed at the top of config as an OK version. Usually as long as you're not trying to flash a firmware version that's newer than the one listed there you should be fine. I see you're not doing that.

I've been keeping up with the beta versions of both all along and I've only had a couple screw up to the point I had to go in and short the pins on the black box to reset it and start over. When that's happened to me it will complete the flash but it immediately does odd things. The black box lights flash red and it's constantly typing out a character. Time to find the allen wrench at that point! The new ones have a handy reset button.

I can't flash anything to it, I get that stream of errors the moment the bootloader starts up, rendering the bootloader useless. If I need to reset the controller, which pins need to be shorted? I've popped open the box, but iirc, there's a couple sets of pins. I figured one of them would reset the controller memory, but I didn't want to go shorting things out unless I knew what they were. The labels by the pins weren't informative as to what they were.

Please don't go in blindly.
The bootloader is blocked by some software you're running. Plug the joystick directly to computer and start the native software as Admin. If it still doesn't work kill all background running software like Razer, Logitech, Aorus etc; you could even start in Safe mode so other software would interfere with running the native software.

I encountered the same problem with my Mk. I today. Couldn't flash anything. Here's what solved it for me:

In the folder where I had VKBDevCfg-C.exe, I also had Zbootloader-C.exe and zconfig.ini. I deleted zconfig.ini. I also right-clicked each of the exe files---and under Properties, Compatibility--I selected "Run as administrator." Then ran the configurator, entered bootloader mode, and flashed firmware. Worked like a champ after that.

Not sure which of the three steps actually solved the problem---as I just did them at once---but it worked out.

Hope this works for you, too.
