Spring install pic please?

Postby Eddie » Mon Dec 14, 2020 19:20

For fallout 9... My brother and I are at odds re which spring goes where. I followed your previous instructions, but now I'm not sure I have them placed properly. We both have MK3 with the "L" extension, and want a #50 and #30 spring set up. If we were to install a #50 spring and a #30 spring into the base, could you please post a pic that shows exactly where to put the 50 and 30 springs? Much appreciated if you can do this for us. Thank again fallout9... take care...Merry Christmas!

Anyone? I'm all ready to install the springs etc., and I'm not sure if fallout9 is available in the next while. If anyone here can post a pic of where to put the 50 spring, and where the 30 spring goes, it sure will be appreciated. Thanks all..take care...Merry Christmas!..

I don’t understand what the difficulties have arisen? How to put 2 springs of different stiffness? We put the stronger one first - it will protrude to the bearing, as in the photo. And the second will come out, otherwise it will not be put.

Thank you for the quick response Ron61. We, [my brother and I] want to use 2 springs per axis. Your pic seems to show the stronger [# 50} spring goes in first, and the # 30 spring we want to use, would go in on the top peg above the # 50 spring. Is that correct? Also, we have 50 A and reg. 50 etc. springs. Which of those would you recommend? A or regular? I thank you again Ron61. We are obviously anxious to get set up, but we want to make damn sure we set it up properly. You guys on this site are great. We really do appreciate you taking the time to help. Thanks again.. take care..

One more thing, we removed the springs that came stock in the base, so we're starting from scratch. 4 bare pins. I do beleive though, you have answered my Q on what spring goes in first etc. Now, should we use the # 50A and # 30A or go with thae standard 50 and 30. Thanks again....take care...Merry Christmas!..

Hey Eddie, check this video from the timestamp, it shows how to install the springs. Install the #50 spring first, with its 'belly' facing the cam and the #30 spring second, with its 'belly' facing outwards. Good luck!

Thanks fallout9. I have two types of springs. # 50A and a standard #50. Is there a difference? Should I use the springs with the # followed by the letterA? Thanks for responding fallout9....take care..

Yes, they different. The regular springs are to be used with the original cams (#10 and #30) and the newer springs (those marked with A) with the new sets of cams (Space-S and H and Avia-S and H).

If I want to use four #50A springs, will I have an issue with the warranty. Is it safe to go with all #50A springs? What do you recommend using 4 springs? Is #50 too high? With my 200mm "L" extension, the stick seems to wander a bit. Thanks for the help fallout9... take care..

Max recommended per cam is 1x#40 plus 1x#50.

I kinda figured two 50s would be too much. The #50 springs are super stiff, and a bit difficult to install. The 40s are pretty strong too. I'll go with your recommendation fallout9. Thanks...take care...

OK...I installed the springs, and sure enough,I broke the extractor tool again. With the myriad spring strength options,it's almost guaranteed the spring exractor tool will break, or get caught up etc.,and needs to be cut to remove it. VKB should have anticipated this, and provided us with an extra tool. Wouldn't put them out of business if they gave us a couple extra screws too. Know what I mean? fallout9,... is there any way you could send me a couple of the extractor tools? My brother will no doubt need one. VKB doesn't sell the tool by itself, and to pay duty etc. for that little peice of wire makes no sense to me. I know I could make a tool, but it's a matter of having the properly designed tool. We pay enough for hte joysticks etc. Extra spares of screws etc. should be included when a person buys high end hardware packages. Thanks fallout9...take care...

Sorry Eddie, I'm nowhere close to a stash of spring extractors so I can't help you on this :(. Get in touch with your vendor so find a way for getting some spares please.

I need to apologize fallout9. On closer checking of the little bags of springs etc. etc., I found an extra wire for the puller loop. It's so thin, it was hard to spot in the packages provided. Sorry VKB. You DID anticipate people breaking the spring tool. I guess I'm OK for now. Thanks fallout9...take care
