overwhelmed beginner: Star Citizen

Postby Karkong » Fri Nov 27, 2020 14:37

Hello,

sorry to bother you, I'm a bit in over my head.
I received my GF III MGCpro with Twist last week. After a few issues I made it work reasonably well with Star Citizen. I fly real planes as a hobby, so I can't go the HoSaS route for safety reasons, so when the trottle comes out, I'll add that and will try to put the strafe controls there on a hat. For now it's hands on Stick and Keyboard, it works reasonably well.

To my issues:

1) I want to use the GATE CONT (УПРАВ СТРОБ) ministick to look around (for now) but that doesn't work. It's by default bound to rZ and Slider1 while the brake lever is slider2. What do I do wrong?
2) Is it possible to change the force required for the twist action? I use a center mount with the 200mm extender (less wrist pain, finer control and more in line of what I usually use)

Thanks

PS: Does anyone have a good button mapping for star citizen he can share? For now I use all guns on the #3 trigger (which is probably not a good idea) and for convenience I use chaff & flares on the #6 button. Yes, I need some help.

Hi Karkong, to use the GateCont ministick for look around in Star Citizen you'll have to get to Flight/View section and bind the ministick pitch to Look Up/Down and roll to Look Left/Right (attention, it won't work if you'll try to bind it to Look Up/Look Down/Look Left/Look Right - these are for digital inputs and you need analog). I also suggest to bind the center push of the GateCont to Cycle Camera View, so you'd have all external camera controls in the same place.

It'd be hard to find someone with the same setup as yours, but here's what I would recommend:
Fire 1 and Fire 2 on first stage trigger (or you could put Fire 2 on second stage trigger);
Space brake on brake lever;
Gate Cont ministick for external view;
Landing gear on secondary trigger in up position;
Quantum travel on secondary trigger in squeeze stage;
Scan mode on Reset hat center push; activate scan on S; scan ping on N; increase scan on W; decrease scan on E;
Ap Off button for missiles;
LvlNG and Gun buttons for countermeasures;
Manvr hat for adjusting shield on different sides;
DC hat for different power settings;
Pinkie button for MobiGlass.
Rest of the controls you could use on keyboard.

Thanks a lot fallout, I'll try that.

Concerning the force required for the twist - there is no adjustment possible, correct? Or is the other spring that came with the kit of a different strength?
By the way, that could be something for the Mk IV, fine adjust that spring strength by prestressing it using nylon washers.
Also there should be a database where everyone uploads their preferences, maybe with a rating system and searchable by components - but that woud make it much easier on the not as hardcore joystick users.

I'll be back with more questions soon!

You could replace the twist module spring with the other one provided, which is softer than the default spring.
