Okay, so I was working on 1.99.4 and everything was okay.
I have a problem with Star Wars:Sqaudrons not working with the T-Rudders, so I updated the firmware.
Now, however, the name in the Windows 'Game Controllers' screen for the rudders is different, and SW:S doesn't see my rudders AT ALL.
Obviously (I think) It's not just that the 'string' of the name that is the problem, but perhaps how it's interfacing with Windows or how it's establishing it's connection has changed?
How can I downgrade the Orange 'BlackBox' back to what it was before? I've just tried flashing 1.99.4 and whilst it works (rudders-wise) the name in the 'Game Controllers' is still different and SW:S still won't see the rudders, so downgrading alone - or at least to that version - isn't enough to undo the more recent changes.
Please help.
Thanks.

Please, VKB Support - can I please get some help on this? This change has broken compatibility with a game I purchased.
Thank you.
Thank you.

You likely need to reassign the rot-X and rot-Y axes to X and Y.
The game has issues recognizing controller devices that don’t have X and Y axes.

Really? I’ve not seen mention of that amazing tidbit on the ea forums.
Is this easy to do in the vkb-CFg app? I must admit to finding it very user unfriendly and un-intuitive. All I use it for is correcting drift by recalibrating.

I added two non-functional new axes, X & Y and saved it and then SW:S recognised the rudders.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Glad that worked. If you have trouble binding half of an axis, you may have to unplug one or more of your other devices. The game is bit of a mess with binding.
I’m guessing the issue isn’t well known because most devices people are using have X and Y axis (either on joystick itself, analog stick on throttle, etc) and not many are using rudder pedals (the one flight sim device that is usually without X and Y axes).
