[Solved] NXT module issues and HID controller question

Hey all, hoping for a little help here.

I've got a left and right gnx premium setup with a thq and fsm both connected to the left stick. All was working fine for 2 months or so until last night. I fired up my system and noticed that the fsm had no leds lit when it usually does. I went into vkbDevConf and confirmed that the fsm was not registering anymore. I didn't move any cables or make any changes at all...it just quit on me. So, I unplugged the usb-c cable that connects the fsm to my thq, re-plugged it in and no change. I then clicked the the default and find and autoconfig buttons in devconfig, which brought the fsm back to life! Great right?

Well, no unfortunately. Now, whenever I make ANY change to the profile in devconfig, the fsm refuses to boot at all. For example, I tried to disable axis 8 on my thq (I've got the handle that connects two axis together installed). When I do this and hit set, the fsm goes dark and stays dark. I have to do the default/find and autoconfig again to get it back again. In its current state, I can't make any changes to the profile. Not every time but maybe half the times I tried this, the thq stopped responding as well. I was running firmware 2.08, flashed 2.09 after this issue appeared and same result.

On another note, I have a gnx hid controller laying around with a broken usb-c connector (broken off completely). Can I use that 4 pin jst connector on the hid controller to connect to the pc if I have no usb-c connector? What i want to ultimately do is move the fsm from the left side of my setup to the right side without moving the thq to the right side also. I figured using the hid board may clear up some of the issues with devconfig above at the same time. The thq is currently connected to my left stick internally and the fsm is currently plugged into the thq. Thank you and happy new year to all!

Let's recap: FSM connected to THQ by Type-C to Type-C cable and THQ connected to Gladiator NXT by 3-to-4 JST cable, correct? If Default and Find&Autoconfig are pressed and calibration done everything works. If making any changes to the profile FSM dies. Correct so far?
I assume the changes to the profile are saved by pressing the Set button.
Have you tried changing the USB port?

Fsm connected to thq by 3pin jst to usb-c cable (that's what shipped with my fsm, no usb c to usb c cable). All else is correct. I haven't tried changing usb ports, all gear is running through a USB hub to the pc.. Thanks so much for the reply on a holiday eve!!

3 pin to USB-C or 4 pin to USB-C?

You're right...4pin to usb-c.

Then wiring is fine. Try other (computer) port(s) when you have some time, maybe there's not enough power at the end of the hub.
I tried to replicate the issue on a similar setup on a right hand GNX, but for me it works, so it's not a software bug.

Will try and thanks again for helping me on a holiday. Is that 4pin jst connector on the hid controller usable in place.of the usb-c connector? If so I may try that too.

Unfortunately no, that's a bus connection, not USB. What other cables you have left from the original package?

Usb type A to type c from the hid package, that's all. I'll have to get another hid controller with a good usb port then. I have a ticket open on the busted one, they offered to send a replacement but it's tough for me to justify $25 shipping on a $15 part (no offense meant here). I'll get around to ordering a replacement after the new year. Have a safe and happy one yourself and thx again for trying to help me out. Looking forward to that omnithrottle adapter btw....

And..........it was the usb cable from stick to pc. Tried a spare on a whim and the profile was changed and set no issues. OK I'll leave you alone to enjoy the new year now
