WWII throttle not recognised

Postby Grumble » Thu Dec 29, 2022 22:52

Hi,

I have added a second THQ with the WWII throttle to my VKB collection, the unit is assembled and connected as per the appropriate YouTube video, and the THQ itself is set to sub address 4 as required.

I connected it all up to my Gladiator NXT, SEM, FSM-GA and existing THQ, reset the whole thing to Default and did 'Find and Auto Configure' as per the instructions. The second THQ shows up in external devices as it should, and the buttons on the base of the unit all work fine in test and in sim use, but the buttons on the throttle handle itself are not recognised for some reason, either in game or in the devcfg.

I re-checked all the connections, and took the throttle handle apart to check the connections in there too, but all is fine. I noticed in devcfg that the new THQ is showing up with three axes still, but from the YT video I think it should only show as two if the WWII throttle is recognised properly.

It's clear the WWII throttle is not being picked up - is there any additional setting or step in devcfg that I am missing, or any way to make it recognise the German throttle manually?

Thank you.

Post 2 screenshots please with the Global/External panel, one with the first THQ checked and the the other with the second THQ checked.

Firmware and software versions are old, let's try the latest. You could download the whole package from here.
Let me know if you need further assistance with flashing process.

OK, I will give those a try, thank you.

I was reading earlier the process for flashing them, I think I get it, but I will try over the weekend and get back to you if the issue persists.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Despite some trepidation (the first time I tried this it was a bit of a nightmare), that was really easy, and worked exactly as hoped. Every button and axis now recognised properly and calibrated.

Having used the default and auto configure I'll have to re-bind everything in-game, but it's great to have it all working.

Thank you very much again, and best wishes for a Happy New Year.

I bought a THQ and WW2 throttle separately. I installed the throttle and it does not work. The base buttons all seem fine . The THQ is on version v2.081. Do I need to flash the throttle? If so how?

Does your THQ has a GNX HID controller so it could be used as an independent USB device?

So if you have only modules running with a GNX HID Controller reflash to the latest firmware by following the next steps:

- download the latest configurator, bootloader and firmware package;
- unzip them all in the same, dedicated folder;
- run zBootloader, select your device from de device list in the lower half of the window, then click the Start Boot button;
- click the zBoot device that shows up in the device list screen, then click the ... button on the upper right side and navigate to the firmware file (_GNX_USB_Controller_v2.09.0.vkb) - load it up;
- click the Flash It! button and wait for the flashing operation to end;
- zBootloader should close by itself;
- run VkbDevCfg as Admin and select your device in the upper blue device list;
- click the Default button under the Tools tab;
- after restart click Yes when asked to auto configure (select the device if it's deselected at this point);
- calibrate by pressing the Start Calibr button, moving the axes through their whole range, then clicking the End Calibr. button.

Nope, that didnt work. I disconnected the other THQ and SEM, and set the address of the THQ to 4. I was able to do all the steps below. I see the buttons for the THQ working, but not for the ww2 handle.

Run VKBDevCfg, navigate to the Global/External panel, click the Find&Show button and post a screenshot with it.

The firmware you're running is too old; the WW2 throttle grip came out a while after that. That's why I posted the walkthrough to flash your device to the latest firmware. Please follow that and I promise it'll work.
