GF III Ministick "Shift" possible???

Postby Stonehenge » Thu Sep 24, 2020 18:34

To explain it briefly:
I am a Star Citizen and use the ministick to strafe. Now I would like to have a shift function there. So that I can switch to camera control at the push of a button. This way I could control everything from the outside and land super relaxed. I hope you understand how I mean that. I have also understood the shift function of the buttons in the video. But does that also work with axes? And if yes....how?

Let me know if I got this straight: you have strafe up/down and strafe left right on the axes of the ministick and also want to use the axes (or buttons) of the ministick for external view? If that's the case there is a solution, but obviously you won't be able to rotate the external camera and strafe your ship at the same time.

Almost right :wink:
In principle it's right. But of course, my idea was to use the Ministick-Button to switch between "strafing" and "camera control" :D

So 2 options that you have,
1. a very easy one, where you set the center button of the ministick as a TempoB, which would give you long press as swap buttons to axes and short press a button. Assign the short press button to external camera view in game, also assign the axes to strafing and the POV to camera rotation.

2. a very complicated one, where you basically double your axes functions of the ministick and save the POV mode to other bindings:
- click on the ministick center button (1) and set it up as TempoB (2), click on the logical representation (3), set Butt 1 to an unused number on the chart, like 65 (4), check the Use 2 Buttons option and set the second button to 66 (5);

- click on the first button - 65 (1) and set it up as AUX Axes (2), with Axis Function as Switch (3), with source axis 6 - or whatever axis number your ministick has as pitch (4) and target axis 8 - this one has to be an unused axis on your device (5); check Alternate Action (6);
- do the same as above for button 66, with source axis 5 - or whatever axis number your ministick has as roll and target axis 7 - or whatever axis is left unused on your device;

- click on one of the buttons on the bottom row (1) and set it as Boolean (2), with JMP as Operation (3) and Logical button 65 (4) sent to Physical button 65 (5);
- do the same with a second button on the bottom row, but this time use 66 instead of 65, for the second button you created; press Set when done (6).

This way you'll get regular strafe movement on ministick, short press on the center is switching to camera axes (short press is also supposed to get bound in game as external camera) and long press gets to POV mode, which could get assigned to other things.

Point 1 sounds really very simple. But I don't really understand the principle behind it. The TempB means that the axes of the mini-stick can be assigned twice? Especially since the TempB was assigned to the button.

No, the second option doubles ministick axes. First option is just the regular buttons mode assigned to camera view and axis mode to strafing.
By default ministick comes with just a short press on the center button as a buttons to axes mode swap. By setting the center press as a TempoB you get a long press as a mode swap buttons to axes and a short press which could be used as a regular version.

Unfortunately, the second option did not lead to success. On the one hand, my Twist axle no longer works afterwards and, on the other hand, it unfortunately does nothing. In any case, there is no switchover after I have pressed the mini-stick button. It remains to strafe

Ah, then forget about that, the twist MCG Pro is fully loaded with axes, my suggestion was fit for a Kosmosima on a GF or NXT base :)
But still, you have 2 ministicks on the MCG Pro, you could use one for strafing and the other one for external camera; this would make more sense than having them both on the same ministick, as you sometimes need to strafe when in external camera.
