Getting the analog hat on MCG to work right with IL2 BoS?

Postby LukeFF » Mon Dec 25, 2017 2:36

The MCG Pro has a wonderful concave hat with two axes on it that I'd like to use in IL2 BoS. However, with the way it is set up by default, everything just returns to center when I let go of the hat (such as when I try to map one of the axes to the Bf 109 stabilizer trim). I tried Sokol's suggestion to change the axis from Absolute to Relative in VKBDevCfg, but IL2 BoS won't recognize the axis that way. I then tried in vain to set up the axes as buttons with the Axes2Buttons feature.

So, how do I go about this? Ideally, I'd like to keep the hat functioning with the two axes, but I'm open to other solutions.

Thanks!

Hi :)
We were in such a hurry to send out the grips that we had to put aside writing a detailed manual.
Anyway, before we do that, I will help you out.
1 - is it the GATE CONT we're talking about?
2 - you want it to work as a button or axis?
Best Regards,

Hi,

Yes, it is the gate control I am talking about. I would like to use it as an axis to move stabilizer trim up and down in IL2 BoS. However, with the default joystick settings, the stabilizer trim will just revert to its middle value when I release the Gate Control button.

If it is not possible to use it as an axis for stabilizer trim, I would like to set it up so that there is a button press at 0, 90, 180, and 360 degree positions.

It's easy.
Download the latest version of VKBDevCfg-C software http://ftp.vkb-sim.pro/Programms/VKBDev ... 83_8_5.zip
Check the settings
"Gate Cont"/"УПРАВ СТРОБ" - axes #5,6

Make changes according the screenshot
p2.jpg

But#1=30 (setup first button of stick). Buttons #30, 31, 32, 33 assigned to 4-position stick.
DZ=50 (Dead zone =50%). After the axis goes beyond 50% of the total range - the button is pressed

Don't forget to press "SET" button for load new data to the controller.

Hmm this does not seem to be working any more for me.
I had assigned that hat to reflect button presses as per the above, was working for a while now when I depress it keeps alternating between two button presses for each individual button on that hat. In both directions it does that.

Have reset to default, may try again later not sure what went on with that.
I just want 4 button presses to be able to assign to control my exterior views.

Well I went back in and set it up again carefully following the instructions in this thread - seems to be working fine now.
Maybe I had missed a value or something previously.
Will advise should it happen again.

On the lines of the text it can be difficult to determine the problem, so try to provide more information in the form of screenshots from the configurator.
Even on indirect grounds it is much easier to localize the incorrect (incomplete) setting, or a bug.

I think the problem is the area that creates the button press is very narrow. I am trying to have the Gate hat generate 4 button presses.
When I move the hat if I don't stay in exact center the button releases. And it is a little hard to keep it in exact center whilst moving it.
Not sure if there is a value that affects that.

I have been playing with it whilst viewing the button presses in the VKB software and that is how it appears to me.
Here are the images how I have it set up.

Do not forget that all the microstick, the flip-flop trigger and the brake lever are the axles. And they will function properly after calibration. If you do not calibrate the trigger, you will not get any additional buttons except # 3. You should calibrate the microstick, this can be judged by the numbers KdHi and KdLo different from 255.
And you can try and so.The axes 5 and 6 can be turned off altogether.

Thanks for the info.
I am unclear on turning axis 5 and 6 off, is there something in the screenshots that reflects them being turned off?

Hmm perhaps I forgot to calibrate the micro-stick, will calibrate again and see if that takes care of it.

Thanks,

I think that was it!
I calibrated again making sure I also calibrated the Gate mini-stick, now viewing the button presses in DevCFG they are showing pressed normally with no problems.

Apparently the last couple times I calibrated I must have missed doing that mini-stick.

Thanks!
