Question about UK 20% VAT & duty tax.

Postby Tonystovepipe » Thu Jan 21, 2021 22:56

I ordered the rudder pedals on January 10th and UPS tracking says it's at my local town warehouse and I should get it tomorrow.
But I don't know now if I needed to pay 20% vat plus duty on top of the total order price? or because it's passed through customs now I won't get charged extra?

I don't think the order included UK vat?
Thanks for any help.

Update arrived to extra charges so thats good :D

I've just had my duty and brokerage fees from UPS today for a Gunfighter Mk.III with MCG Pro (£79 duty/VAT and 11.50 brokerage fee)
although UPS seems to have no idea where my package actually is. the tracking system says it's on its way to me, the call centre says it's still being held at customs

if it got through customs you might be safe from paying duty, you should have got an email from UPS if you need to pay duty

see what I sent to UPS below
apparently, customs are still holding my package even though you want me to pay duty and brokerage fees.
surely asking for duty means it's cleared customs?
your system also seems to tell different things to different people
WTAF is going on?

If it's £135 or less you should be charged VAT at point of sale, so shouldn't be charged it again by customs but may have some other fees idk.

The price for the NXT has been changing, when it's 152 euros I think this should just scrape under the £135 and you wouldn't pay VAT, but if you'd bought it at 185 Euros you would be hit with VAT. At which point I think we'd be better off buying from the USA website for $150/£110.

If the 152 euros reports as including VAT for EU is that in fact potentially charging vat twice for the UK? Mines now been returned to Germany citing Brexit delays.

Yeah my pedals arrived in the UK and have been sent back to the Netherlands twice now, I suspect it's something to do with the new taxes.

I'm on the phone waiting for UPS now as I wanted to check it wasn't a scam too but a bit of reading makes it look like UPS believe it is a business shipment not a personal one which is why its been tagged. Downside we might need to pay brokerage fees.

EDIT: Spoke to UPS had to supply my sales invoice they are sorting it out. Have to pay import fees (Vat and the handling charge) it’s moving again now though. Speaking to support it seems like there is a mismatch of required information and VKB are supplying information to UPS correctly. If you get the generic call or email from ups they just need the invoice the commodity code and description no need for the DAN or EOIR numbers. Hope this helps.

If your shipments bouncing around like this call UPS and ask about customs charges.

- Commodity Code or Plain language goods description
commodity code is 95045000
Goods description is "PC Gaming Pedals" and "PC Gaming Joystick". We call in the documents both as "PC Gaming Controllers"

Cheers, may ring them tomorrow and see what they say. They haven't sent me anything asking for paperwork though, just keeps pinging back and forth.

Were we supposed to pay the 20% EU VAT in this situation then? I'm wondering if the VAT + postage fee put it in the higher import duty bracket, all a bit confusing.

Initially I had a bunch of phone calls from them from a London number googled it and it said scam... phoned ups from the website and it was real. It does seem like it might be 20% on the landed price plus an £11 fee. Will update the thread when they tell me. It’s left Germany again now so moving at least.

Edit: just had a bill for £15.

Mine went from 'Cleared Customs' and due to deliver today, to now being back in the Netherlands. Are VKB EU doing something wrong or UPS? This is happening to a lot of us.

Edit - UPS said it was missing information from sender.

Just Brexit. I provided everything UPS said was missing. Paid import fees. It came back to uk today. Rejected by customs again this evening. Getting a bit fed up now.

After much arguing with UPS, my stick cleared customs this morning

it might be worth speaking to the UPS clearance team and manually providing your invoice from VKB. I can't see my stuff being sent back and forth.

so fingers crossed it turns up

not paying customs/duty until I have the package in my hand. been stung before by prepaying it then my package getting lost/rejected

can I join the fed up with UPS train and their everything is screwed because of Brexit excuses? your (UPS) a multinational company and had more than enough time to prep for the absolute chaos that leaving the EU is causing.

the VKB's defence these issues are happening both ways (import & export). even homemade gifts that my Czech stepmom sent to her mom have been stuck in customs and needed duty paid
