Hello!
After buying a STECS Standard and a MCG Ultimate recently i am completly overwhelmed by the mass of functionality the Software (DEV CFG) offers and by the 165 pages Manual.
I tought its easy to use - which it is if things work properly like in DCS where i can bind functions to buttons like expected.
BUT:
in IL2 everything got out of control. Just to be safe for no double-bindings i deleted the devices.txt in the data/input folder of IL2 BOS (so it will be resetted).
In the menue of IL2 i made a new profile and assigned it to the desired aircraft. Then i deleted EVERY default binding so i do everything from the scratch.
The axis work fine but when it comes to buttons i get many trouble.
I assign a button to cockpit light and it works perfect.
I assign a button to trim rudder: can be set in configuration and the button is recognized well but when i press save and go back to the cockpit that exaxt button does simply NOTHING.
When i go back and check the binding the binding looks ok but as told it does NOT work in cockpit.
Same problem with the buttons on the MCG Ultimate stick.
I assume there is something wrong in the configuration of the stick and the problem can be solved with the Dev config software. But if you ask me they went a bit crazy with that one.
I mean: we talk about a HOTAS system for gaming and not about rocket sience... but maybe i can find someone here who can tell me the short way what i can do to get this work also in IL2.
Hope someone can help!!
sincerely
Wolfgang

Re: I Need help with STECS and MCG Ultimate config in IL2
Be more specific about which button does not work on which aircraft after assignment (a screenshot would be better). There is a simple rule here - if there is a response in the Test tab of the configurator, but not in the game, then the reason is on the side of the game.
As far as I remember (I could be wrong), if on an airplane the trim tabs were controlled by the steering wheel (axis), then the buttons will not be controlled and, accordingly, vice versa.
Try assigning trim to an axis to check this.

Re: I Need help with STECS and MCG Ultimate config in IL2
Hello Ron,
thank you for your reply and help with my issue.
Let me try to be more specific: I made my configuration for the P-51D and i created an own setting for that which i assigned to that specific aircraft.
As described i deleted every binding to any key in that configuration setup. Then i assigned my axis for pitch, roll, and yaw. All that axis work properly.
Then i try to assign the trim-functionality to buttons on my joystick. In the Assignment the buttons are recognized properly but jumping back into the aircraft pressing that same button does nothing.
I tried to assign an axis to that trim functionality and this works, but of course i dont want this to be assigned to an axis as i dont have enough of them.
On the attached screenshot you can see that the button is recognized but unfortunately this does not work inside the cockpit.
One thing i saw is that the left trim is button 31 in DEV-Cfg setup but button 30 in the game-settings. But i am sure this is just because il2 seems to start count with 0 and has nothing to do with the funcionality itself.
best regards,
wolfgang

Hello,
i found out something:
Binding the Trim as Buttons does NOT work. But binding the buttons in the Trim (Axis) functions DOES work.
I think that this is VERY misleading und poorly understandable. The devs realy should fix that - i think its an problem of il2.

In this case, you should use the Maser Mode (relative) microstick axes, having first turned off the uSSw switch on the central button. You can attach the Reset function to it to reset the trimmers to the center.
In POVs, disable HAT (POV HAT - Discrete), since the axial mode will now be the only one.

Re: I Need help with STECS and MCG Ultimate config in IL2
Hey Ron, thx for your help
But i understand those instructions only so far that i should
- "enable master mode (relative) for the microstick axes"
- "before that turn off the uSSw switch on the central button"
- "assign Reset-Function for trimmers to center button"
- "disable HAT (POV HAT - Discrete) since axial mode will now be only one"
the problem is that i dont know "how" to do it.

Off Topic, but yes: IL-2's keymapper is a bit of a joke and needlessly confusing and complicated. They should really overhaul that thing.
That said: I haven't flown DCS in a while so I don't know for certain about that title, but other than that, I don't think I've found a sim where I can use the trim-hat as intended. If I use it at all in other games, I usually just leave it in "button-mode". I *think* the trim-axis/trim-hat mode needs to be directly supported by a game or otherwise it won't work properly. Kinda like encoder wheels which also can cause some weird behavior in some games if the game doesn't support them specifically.
EDIT:

This might be a long shot, but are you sure the plane you were in has pilot-trimmable rudder? In the 109s and 190s for example, the function will do nothing because those planes don't have rudder-trim. They also use a different function for elevator trim. There are two distinct functions in the keymapper, one for "normal" elevator trim and one for the adjustable horizontal stabilizer that the 109 and 190 use. The "elevator trim"-function will not work in these two planes, you will need to map and use the "adjustable horizontal stabilizer"-function (or whatever it's called in the key-mapper). Since all planes have either elevator trim or an adjustable stabilizer (none have both), I simply have both functions mapped to the same buttons. The mapper will show you a conflict, but that isn't an issue.

Hello,
May be late.
To assign trim as buttons in IL2 you have to assign all the related settings.
Exemple elevator trim : I want to use button 52 as trim+ and button 53 as trim-
Elevator trim axis : B52 (up)/ B53 (down) (even tor the axis you have to declare butttons).
Elevator trim switch: down ->: B53
Elevator trim switch: up -> :B52
Repeat same operation for all trims where there is axis/ non axis definition possible.
Attention buttons for +and - must be the same for axis as for non axis definition.
Have fun
