Feature Request: Backlit Throttle Buttons

Postby SheperdX » Fri Jan 23, 2026 2:19

I switched my throttle from the STECS to Winwing, and I figured I’d share why in an effort to help improve the product and provide some customer/market feedback. This is merely my reasoning for switching, but skimming hotas forums, this is a reocurring "qualm" against VKB, so I figured it would warrant a suggestion. I ask the community to upvote if you agree or have a similar request.

From the top:
For throttle systems, it would be great to have an LED backlight or underglow option to improve key visibility. Winwing (regrettably) does this extremely well. The main reason I got rid of my STECS was that when playing at night, I often hit the wrong keys due to low visibility, which pushed me to look for a quality-of-life upgrade. You could argue that lighting matters less on the stick than it does on a throttle, where you’re frequently reaching for buttons and switches.

I’d love to see an all-metal throttle system with backlighting/underglow from you guys. Heck, maybe even have the ability to change the LED color to surpass your competition.

Thanks for listening. Pic of my setup attached.

For those using a VR headset, this is not important at all, unfortunately.

Fair point... VR users won’t benefit much. I’m mainly advocating for non-VR/night flying, where visibility directly affects accuracy. If it’s optional + dimmable/off by default, it’s a no-impact feature for VR folks and a meaningful QoL/accessibility improvement for everyone else.
