Gladiator pro to gunfighter Mk4 - a new perspective

Postby blackram » Fri Oct 11, 2024 14:17

So I took the plunge and bought Gunfighter MKIV with Kosmosima premium grip. Set everything up late last night. The general impression is top notch. I was surprised that it has a considerably different feeling than Gladiator pro. Even though Glad pro feels much better than normal Gladiator, this is an even higher level. Adjusting the tension of the springs and dumper is a bit tricky because you need to remove the rubber cover from the base and screw the cover again without it and put the grip and then use an allen key to adjust the screws that are normally under the cover. Then, when you are satisfied with the feeling, take off the grip and screws and re-screw the cover and grip.
The feel and precision is fantastic. I flew the mig 29 and P51 for a short time in DCS and I can already feel how much more precise I am and how much easier it is to maneuver. Feedback is great.
I left the default CAMs and #20 springs and tightened the springs a bit and loosened the dumpers significantly. I like it that way. For desktop use that is. For simpit with extension there would be stiffer springs needed.
The grip is very ergonomic (that worried me), although I have a small complaint about the handrest. It's a bit too narrow, although I'm used to the very wide handrest on the KG12 (it's similar on the warthog grip), so I think it's a matter of habit. That rubber over the plastic accessory for the elevated position of the hand is not the most comfortable for the skin, but luckily my hand can reach everything without it.
The Gunfighter Mk4 came with the latest firmware already installed so I just did the calibration in the VKB config software and it was all done in no time.
The base is connected via the blackbox which is connected to the usb port. Blackbox can simultaneously receive VKB pedals, so one USB slot on the PC is saved.
All the buttons and hats are very useful to me (the premium version of the SCG Kosmosimag grip has one hat that, when pressed, can also be used as a mini stick which is very usefull in modern jets - radar).
Inside eh base, I taped the two wires to the inner part of the base casing because it seemed to me that they were a little bit in the way of the gimbal's movement. This should be taken care of in production.

Thats it for now. VKB nailed it again.
