Looking For Old Warthog->VKB cams

Postby hnbdgr » Thu Nov 30, 2023 11:48

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for these W cams to use on my gunfighter III (See attached).

I only recently got the Gunfighter III with extension. I've taken it apart, greased it etc, all is good except I slightly dislike the center notch/bump.
My previous joystick is a winwing orion2 with NC-cams (No center cams) but the softest cams available with VKB are Avia-S. Which are great, but definitely have a defined center. I understand these legacy "W" cams were available some time in the past and apparently came very close to no-center. I wonder if anyone knows where to get a pair? Private sale, Archival stock etc?

Here's a link to a reddit post that mentions these cams as part of an upgrade grip: https://www.reddit.com/r/hotas/s/aNgXtO2Spf

Is it possible these were manufactured by VKB and/or Stratojet? It seems like I'm digging up ghosts here as it's all from nearly 8-10 years ago. Either way if anyone can help would be grateful!

Another option is apparently to get an extra set of Avia-S and just dremel/smooth the notch. If anyone can recommend a tutorial for it that'd be amazing.

Tangential question. During regreasing of the clutch, a bit fell off which I assume is a stopper/holder for the cable. I can't just put it back in as it keeps falling out...? This is the bit I'm talking about:

I assume if I manage to tuck the cables away safely no harm will come to them? Is there a way to put that stopper back in?

Last question:
my GFIII set was second hand and there were no spring sleeves included (I do use 2x springs on each), do i need any spring sleeves to keep them from getting tangled in the GFIII? doesn't seem to be a problem so far, thought I'd check.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, but those cams are out of production for a long time now.
That securing tab is supposed to get attached to the board by a small screw, you could see here taking it off and installing it back.
It's recommended to have some covers on the springs, otherwise they'll break. You can find this kind of sleeve protection at electronics store.

Hey man, appreciate the answer!

Ok so with the cams... if I wanted to dremel them to have a no center, should i follow the contour from GEN.1 as seen below?

I think there's some weirdness going on with the securing tab. I'll check it again at some point but I'm pretty sure it's not as seen on the video :/

and will get some sleeves, thanks.
