Throttle for NXT

Postby conure86 » Thu Dec 23, 2021 16:40

Hey all,

I currently have a VKB NXT Premium coupled with a VKB T-Rudder and a Thrustmaster TWCS. I love my VKB gear but if I'm honest my TWCS feels like cheap trash in comparison. It really ruins the feeling of quality when used with VKB equipment. On that basis I'm looking for a new throttle. I'm only really interested in World War 2 flying in IL-2 and DCS and wondered if the THQ equipment will fill the role of WW2 controls well?

Also, I like the feeling of a HOTAS as opposed to attaching the THQ to my NXT, so I know I'd need to buy the extra chip to connect the throttle to the USB ports. Is the THQ viable as an isolated throttle which I can use as the throttle aspect of a hotas? Would people regard the THQ as a good upgrade to the TWCS strictly for WW2? Thanks :)

Another thought - would this be a good mix for a throttle?
if I purchased this: https://flightsimcontrols.com/product/g ... -vertical/
With this: https://flightsimcontrols.com/product/g ... on-module/

and this:

https://flightsimcontrols.com/product/g ... -hid-main/

Is that everything I'd need to build an independent throttle system to the NXT? I know I could connect them all up, but I think I'd prefer them all separated.

That said - could I connect all three of them with only one USB cable used? That would be nice as I'm not a fan of cables. If I have two of them connected to the NXT, do I also need the controller hid?

Thanks very much :)

You have couple of options here: the 2 modules (THQ and SEM) connected to the side of the Gladiator NXT, like here; in this case you only need a SEM and a THQ.
Second option is this one (there are 2 THQs in there, but you only need 1), with the SEM-V and THQ connected to the Gladiator NXT and mounted on a MFH.
Third option is to have an independent unit, a SEM and a THQ, connected to USB through a GNX HID controller. I would strongly suggest to get a MFH too for this build, for stability reasons. Also, you'll have to decide which module will be in desktop position and which one in vertical position and order accordingly (the vertical modules are THQ-V and SEM-V).

Hey fallout9,

Thanks so much for explaining my options. I've decided to go with the former! :)
