First time vkb user, just got a gladiator NXT. Really appreciate the build quality coming from a T16000. Long story short only complaint is the damping grease, it's simply unusable to me with so much damping. Easy fix just remove the grease, so I thought..... fist time dealing with the stuff, didn't know the stuff is an unholy sticky nightmare. Afraid to use anything stronger than rubbing alcohol, but it just doesn't cut it.

does anyone know what kind of plastic the gimbal is made of, or any effective safe solvent for removing the damping grease, goal is to remove all traces of it and replace it with regular silicone grease.

If you're like me DON'T DO IT. Use it first then get used to it. Do not make the same mistake I made which is to compare it to other sticks, you need to throw your presuppositions out. I also came from a T1600, which is why I say this. In fact by the time I got my NXT I had already used every significant entry level Joystick in the market:

CH Fighterstick Pro: Great design and implementation except that the top of the stick is way too big for my fingers. The Gimbal and throw are masterful.

There's a link in one of the comments showing you a test of which grease to you to satisfy your desire, but still I think you'd be making a mistake.

3: Joystick throw, balance and center are all related but they are NOT the same. Based on what I've seen in this community in the past 6 months EVERYBODY thinks that they all are fixed by tension which is dead wrong. Here's a good review by someone who actually knows what he's talking about because he went to college for it of the VKB top of the line, still as you will see on the reason 1 video the NXT is even a better design and even closer to reality.

So there you have it in my opinion the answer to your question is embedded. But I was about to make the same mistake because of my ignorance but I was able to change my mind based on new information. When you can fly your plane through the middle of the Mosque on the coast of Bandar Abbas on DCS without crashing with a T1600 or an X-52 in one go you let me know

I agree with him.
The premium version grease is horrible. It doesn't make sense.
You have to push it to go back to the center, and on the twist you can ear that there is to much grease.

Took me a day to remove all of this grease and replace it with the right amount of 767a, playing with the amount of grease and spring to achieve the feeling I wanted to have.

You can do it. Just found a 767a tube on Amazon.
If you Wana use something else just check that this is plastic compatible.
