Star Citizen Glad NXT and ALT key

Hopefully this is a simply request.
PROBLEM: HOSAS setup with dual Glad NXTs to play Star Citizen. I want to set the outer index finger button ON BOTH STICKS (Reg 2 Line
to register a keypress (ALT) while the button is held. In Star Citizen this effectively makes it a "linked" SHIFT button. However, it looks like I do not have the option to just assign the ALT key. I have to pass a code. Imagine my surprise when I am ALT buttoning and I keep strafing left on foot because A (the default letter when you pick Left Alt) is the key chosen.
POTENTIAL SOLUTION A: Is there a way to just have to pass ALT?
POTENTIAL SOLUTION B: Identify what key code is a null scan code to pair with Alt. Is that KEY_Reserved? Will that pass a scan code different than just ALT?
POTENTIAL SOLUTION C: Use SHIFT instead of the modifier to feed many individual buttons. My problem with this solution is either I move the SHIFT key to the pinky button so it's not cramped using the current button for SHIFT on the upper-outside surface, OR I use zLink like one post mentioned because I can't figure out any other way to do a global SHIFT key. Just like using SHIFT on the keyboard, I am much more comfortable and faster at using a SHIFT button on the right stick to user the outer left 4 way on my left stick, and vice-versa.
I DO NOT want to add any additional software if possible (I know Joy2Key can do the ALT only press but I find it ridiculous to have a piece of software for the sole purpose of sending an ALT key). I really don't to use zLink if it's not a native application either, but at least functionality is built into VKBDevCfg.
Any of this make sense?
