Canadian customers?

Could anyone give feedback on shipping times and duties/Brokerage charges? Trying to get an overall picture of costs and wait times. Thank you.

There are no duty fees for getting computer parts in Canada, only federal and provincial taxes. For example, I paid in BC, at delivery, 12% as GST and PST plus $15-20 as brokerage and whatever other processing fees DHL is charging.
From both China and US, parcels took about 4-5 days to arrive.

How those DHL taxes can be paid at delivery? Does they accept cash?
As I foreigner I will staying in my friend's house and I want to buy it before my arrival in Canada

Product and shipping costs are paid before shipping. Local taxes and brokerage costs are paid at delivery.

That is hard to tell these days. Chinese authorities have closed the customs offices repeatedly for 3-4 days in a row in the past 6 months, which creates a backlog, which leads to even more delays. Really hard to approximate.

As an update for fellow Canadians, I just ordered and this was my experience.
I purchased the Gladiator NXT EVO 'Space Combat Edition' - SCG Premium Right

Ordered on Dec 9, 2022 at 7:30pm. This was a Friday evening.
It was $165 USD at the time with $60 for FedEx shipping. I chose FedEx as I have had good experiences with them shipping internationally in the past.

The order was shipped on Dec 12. Monday morning.
FedEx tracking confirmed the service to be "FedEx International Priority-Deliver Weekday". With an ETA of Monday Dec 19.

On Friday, Dec 16 I received the notification from FedEx that I owed $48 for Duty, Taxes, and brokerage. A link was provided and I paid via CC.
After checking the math, I could not reconcile this amount to my invoice. I called FedEx and the agent was able to help me determine that this was because the value was set at $207.11 USD by the shipper - VKB. We have to pay taxes on the goods and the shipping in Canada. So VKB helped me out here a bit. (Thanks fallout9 for making this clear!)
Given this, exchange was applied to convert that to $282.29 CAD. I am in Ontario so GST/HST was calculated at 13% or $36.70. FedEx charges $10 plus tax ($11.30) for brokerage and forwarding the pay to the CBSA.
So $36.70 + $11.30 = $48.00
My stick was delivered on Friday, Dec 16, 3 days ahead of schedule. 5 days shipping. 7 calendar days with processing.

All said and done my total cost in CAD was $315.79 + $48 = 363.79.
This leaves us with this equation to calculate the cost:
Please not e1 and e2 are two different exchange rates. This is because e1 is the rate plus fees your CC charges at order time, while e2 is the rate CBSA charges at the time it clears customs with no fees. You could just use one rate to get close though.

((V + S) * e1) + (V * e2 * GST) + (10 * GST)

in my case this was
((165 + 60) * 1.404) + (207.11 * 1.363 * 0.13) + (10 * 0.13)
315.79 + 36.70 + 11.30
363.79

The goods classification number on my bill is 9825.30.00.00. This determines the duty, if any and taxes due. In this case no duty and just 13% tax on the CAD value.

I hope this helps others looking to order.

*Edited to reflect that we have to pay taxes on the goods+shipping.

The local tax is applied on the whole value of the parcel, which is product value PLUS shipping.

Hi,

I'm interested in your products but local taxes applied to the high shipping cost is really hard to swallow and I think it should not be included in the product value.

Based on this Canada Revenue Agency official page, domestic shipping cost is taxable but international shipping is not. This page stated that international shipment (from outside Canada to inside Canada) is zero-rated (taxable at 0%) service.

Also, this other offical page from the Canada Border Services Agency states that the cost of transportation should be deducted from the price paid when extablishing the value for duty if imported goods.

I hope you guys can adjust the product value for Canada to help lower the import taxes for future buyers. That would help with low value of CAD !

I am sorry, but we don't have any kind of control over this. We're just declaring the value of the product and cost of shipping. From here, CBSA and the courier, which usually acts like broker too take over and decide the tax applied on parcel.
