Things to do with VKB products!

Postby PatMan33 » Sat Dec 24, 2016 22:09

Hey guys, what do you with your VKB products besides look at them and marvel? I've heard some folks play video games with them. Do you?

I don't do as much flight anymore as I'd like, partly because I don't have all of the peripherals I want and also because my 3DS just has so many games to play I can't even. But I still enjoy to dick around in IL-2 Sturmovik and have had fun being flung out of my ship mid-flight in Star Citizen.

DCS for me, about 99% of the time. There's some IL-2 in the remaining 1%, and some Elite Dangerous, and the occasional at Star Citizen peek (free weekend). :)

Current setup:

You've got about what I hope to have in terms of a setup, Rrohde.

Could you tell us more about the chair you've got and the rigging you've set up to hold the controllers? I've been reading some forums that suggest I may be better served (both financially and in terms of comfort) by trying to find an old driver's seat from a car.

This was an Obutto Ozone, that I customized once I got different pedals to accommodate them, as they wouldn't fit the narrow monitor stand / pedal plate. The monitor stand / pedal plate is no more, and the monitor is now wall-mounted instead.
A more suitable (albeit more expensive option) would have been the Obutto R3volution. The seat is decent enough, and all the mounting options are tubes that are part of the Obutto offerings. I odered the HOTAS option, which came with additional mounts.
My next goal is to order a complete cockpit from MonsterTech in Germany, which seems to be of much higher quality and customization options than Obutto's offerings. I will, however, reuse the seat since the MonsterTech one doesn't come with one.

So, constantly evolving options here... :)

Cool! Thank you for the info.

Got a small bonus this year so I just picked up a TrackIR. We'll see how that pans out.

95% dcs 5% star citizen. Currently I only have mark IV'S, that will hopefully be remedied when the gunfighter releases.

Mostly DCS, Il2-1946, BoS, BoM and Clod on the military side and P3D and X-Plane on the civilian side.
Elite Dangerous and, hopefully one of these days, Star Citizen.
Made a wooden box to elevate the base of my Vintage Black Mamba with extension and Warthog grip.
That Warthog adapter was very welcome. I'd broken my Warthog gimble when trying to take
the extension piece off. Was about ready to buy a new one when I found out about the adapter.

What I realy like is that I can take the stick off the base in a few seconds and get it out of the way.
Handy If I feel like shooting instrument approaches instead of blowing stuff up. Thought that the
Mamba base switches and rotaries would not get much use but they are nice for trims and cowl flaps
on the WW2 aircraft.

All I'm waiting for is a metal KG12 grip. The plastic grip looks good but feels too light compared to
the metal Warthog grip. The springs are set perfectly for the Warthog grip and feels unbalanced with
the plastic KG12. I constantly feel that it wants to go back to center. The Warthog stays where I put it
without having to put pressure on it at all. Almost perfectly trimmed at all times.

Star Citizen, basically 100% right now, because I haven't set up the controls yet for Elite Dangerous.
