Please identify the various springs that came with my Mamba + Extension

Postby rrohde » Fri Apr 08, 2016 15:55

Since there wasn't any description included, it would be nice if VKB could identify and label each set of springs based on the image attached by strength/stiffness.

Thank you!

It would probably be easier if they provided all the values on paper, but I guess it's weekend now, and for your individual set it's all Hooke's law ;)

F = - kx

Hang a mass m (use F=mg) in one and measure the displacement x to solve for k.

I think based on UIV's comment:

Upper springs are small force

left lower are big force
next up are medium force(equipped by default)
Mystery springs1 (darker coloring) these seem damn close to the medium force springs.
Mystery springs2 (shortest on right) medium thickness springs but less coils... I think they are a touch stiffer then medium

Hey, that's the day-one patch-free-DLC-minigame, right ?

Image

I want to play!

I'd say E is for the extender (duh) and the big muscle here (not included if you don't have the extender).
C is installed on my pitch axis and I believe it's the (next) stiffest one (at least, I thought it was when I installed it).
A is the default one - medium stiffness?
B is a bit stronger than A,
and D is the weak link!

E > C > B > A > D ?

No hard science has been harmed during that exercise.
I hope we'll have the exact solution next week.

Have a lovely week end, fellow simmers ;)

Bourrinopathe, you always come through with valuable info. You should be in charge of the VKB documentation department. ;)

I wonder why VKB didn't toss a pamphlet like this into the box for us mere mortals to have?

Thanks again. I will keep this for future reference!

You're welcome. But keep in mind the springs rates I posted are merely an exercise in guesswork
I tried to test the springs when I chose one for my pitch axis, but only Ilya/UIV or another VKB engineer will be able to clarify.
I hope I'll win the game nonetheless
