Are there flat transition zones like thrustmaster?

Postby Snafu13 » Sun Apr 04, 2021 5:50

Hi
I had a thrustmaster cougar for well over a decade now, and would like to know about the movement of this joystick. On the cougar, when it is pushed in any direction off center and moved around, there are 4 definite flat transition zones as you cross each axis. (eg. Pushing Forward and to the left, and then pulling straight back, as you cross the axis it catches before moving on). There are various mods that supposedly addressed this, but with its age and their cost a new joystick seems more reasonable.
Does this joystick have any catch as you cross axes, or is it mostly (or completely) smooth?
Thanks!

Those transition zones are called axes detents and they help to know your position so you won't bleed into other axis. The GunFighter base comes with 4 sets of cams which affects the axis detent differently: Avia Hard Detent cams, Avia Soft Detent cams, Space Hard Detent cams and Space Soft Detent cams. Other factors which are affecting the detent crossing are the springs (harder the spring - harder the detent) and the extensions (the detent is softer with an extension).

thanks for answering.
do any of the cams (or combo of) remove or mostly eliminate the unnecessary detents?
on my TM cougar, the transition zone is so pronounced it is literally not possible to bank and move from nose up to down (or vice versa) smoothly.

The Cougar's axis hard detent is almost as bad as Warthog's no detent; on both the breaking point is awful. There are no similarities with the GunFighter's base gimbal system.
