VKB-Link/Z-Link guide: Sending SHIFT state from one VKB device to another

Postby Tuesday John » Fri Mar 17, 2023 23:18

Here's a guide to setting up VKB-Link or Z-Link, which will let you send SHIFT state from one VKB device to another.
*VKB-Link is the current version of the software and if your devices don't show up on Z-Link, use VKB-Link instead.

Download VKB-Link v0.7.5

1.png
Launch VKB-Link.exe or zLink2.exe
Click on "Source / Slave" box and choose the device that will receive the SHIFT state.
Click on "Target / Master" box and choose the device that will send the SHIFT state.
Note the address for the device that will receive the SHIFT, shown next to its name (1.41 in the pic above).
*In this example, Gladiator EVO will send the SHIFT state to GF MCGU. GF MCGU's address is 1.41.

Launch VKBDevCfg.
Select the device receiving the SHIFT state.
Go to Global / External / External Device tab.
Check off "Global SHIFTs" box.
Press Set.

3.png
Select the device sending the SHIFT state.
Go to Global / External / External Device tab.
Within the External Device tab, choose the first empty tab (It was #2 in the example).
Then set Device to "Generic device," Port to "Virtual", and fill ArH and AdrL with the address values for the device receiving the SHIFT state (GF MCGU in this example), as noted from Z-Link (1 and 41 in this example).
Press Set.

4.png
Set a desired button as SHIFT in the device sending the SHIFT state.
*In this example, the pinky button on Gladiator EVO has been set as shift.

Assign buttons for shift in either devices as needed.

Remember that to send SHIFT state from one VKB device to another, Z-Link must be running in the background and "START" button pressed.
