Not a Mini Stick Question: Mapping the Mouse Axes

Postby Yuggs » Sat Mar 19, 2022 2:36

Is there a way to map the mouse X and Y axes to the main joystick X and Y axes (not the mini stick axes) of the Gladiator EVO using the VKBDevCfg software? Mapping the mouse to the joystick is useful for older games which easily detect a mouse but do not easily detect a modern joystick. If that form of mouse mapping is something that is currently not possible I'd like to encourage VKB to investigate it as a possible addition to VKBDevCfg, since it is a fantastic piece of software and can already do so much in the way of mapping whatever control ideas you might have.

Excellent joystick and great software, thank you to the team at VKB and to all the forum members!

In case anyone is looking for the answer to this question, you can map the mouse X and Y axes to the Joystick X and Y axes by enabling the mouse in Global > Common (I usually set it to Relative / Always On). Then under Profile > Axes take note of your standard X and Y axes' AxIDs (usually 1 and 2 respectively). Then go to Profile > POVs and setup a LowRes 4/8 way mouse input, assign to the proper VC (usually 1), generally you'll also be setting it to 2D if you want to map both axes (seems like the only option for 1D is the X axis), and then set the X and Y values of the mouse to match the AxIDs of the Joystick (e.g. 1 and 2). You'll probably also want to mess with the DZ settings and recalibrate.

Anyways, as for the the next question: when switching from 2D to 1D on the mouse in Profile > POVs is it possible to enable only the Y axis? When switching to 1D this way, typically, the Y axis gets greyed out by default and only the X axis is available for customization. I would like to flip it so that the Y axis is the only available 1D axis in this case. Is that possible?

If the 2D option is selected, it affects both axes.
