Hi guys,

Just received my MCG and struggling to configure it properly… Several attempts at reading the manual gave me headache just after 5-10 min of reading so sorry if my questions below have already been asked:

My main issue at the moment is that in DCS I can see that the stick is not properly returning to centre even though I don’t have extension. The stick seem really heavy (I am very impressed with build quality) and I am now thinking of changing the cam and springs

1) What is the difference between space-h, avia-h, space-s cams?
2) What would be the best combination of cam and spring to setup the stick to perfectly re-centre itself on release without necessarily having a feel of some sort of retention in the centre?

I found a video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRVab9Hq40Y which I will use to do that but I have to say that I am really nervous at doing this as the fear of breaking it. It is quite an expensive quite to have to poke with it…

3) Any non DIY person out there manged to do this tuning?
4) Is this easier than what it look like on the video?

Of course I will follow the advice of taking picture before taking things apart…but still I don’t look forward to it and wish it already came setup properly.

The factory installed springs are really soft, you should consider adding up. When it comes to joystick returning to center there are 4 factors to be considered:

Cams - there are soft cams and hard cams. For a precise return to center hard cams are recommended;
Springs - there are 5 sets of springs and each cam could load 2 springs; this means a lot of combinations. For a precise return to center harder combinations are recommended;
Dry clutch - these could be adjusted to cut off the stick oscillations. For a precise return to center the dry clutch has to be completely released;
Deadzone - by default it comes set up to 0.5. I could be easily increased to 1.5-2 without losing any input around center.

Best option guaranteed for the most precise return to center is hard cams with hard springs and dampers completely released. But this could still be achieved with soft cams and hard springs and no dampers. Or even with soft cams and softer springs and larger deadzone. As you could see, there are lots of options. VKB products are made to be messed with by the user. Whatever works for a person wouldn't fit in someone else's preferences, so you could adjust your device perfectly to your liking.

Thanks, I didn't feel brave enough to change the cam, so I have changed the spring only for now. It is a bit better so I will try out during the weekend.

For the spring if you put 2 x 20 on one cam is this exactly the same as 1 x 40 or a strength in between?

If you do decide to take a swing at changing your cams, pay close attention to the order of the washers on the bolt holding it to the bearing as you take it apart. It's important because if you get it wrong putting it back it will affect how the cam face travels on the bearings or the action may not be smooth. That's not the end of the world but it will save you the time taking it apart again to correct it! Almost like the old measure twice, cut once thing!

No, the numbers on the spring bags are just labels, they don't represent values.

@Drano, I can see that you have 2x30 on avia-s, how does it feel? Hard?

I am thinking of adding another 30 but not sure yet

Works for me. I have a 200mm extension as well.
