Someone suggested that I make an edit to the my joystick config to have a short keypress be a button press, so I have a bit more functionality to hat #1. But also leave the long press so it will do the function switch. I've read a lot of forum posts, looked on Youtube, but being new to this, I've not seen a single post that gives a step by step breakdown to how I'd accomplish this. I'm very afraid of messing up my joystick, so I was hoping someone could do this for me?

Please explain step by step - how you want buttons/Hat positions to work. What do you mean short keypress and normal?

Change the button that's assigned to A1 to "Switch by" Tempo B (sorry, I don't which button that is on NXT by default).

Check Poll (as it is on you screenshot). Press button you want to use as ministick switch. Click cell with red dot. Configure this line similarly to current uSwitch (shown on your image). Click cell that is uSwitch now and configure it as button (for example).
