Questions about axes and buttons

Primarily using DCS and just got MSFS 2020, with Gladiator NTX and T-Rudder Mk IV. My preferred mod is the F-86 and just added the F16.
New to vkbconfig complexity, and have a few questions. First, should I set axes curves in vkbconfig or in the individual programs? Same question for assigning buttons: do I do so via vkbconfig and set to keyboard keys or do so in the individual programs? Finally, is there a template drawing of the Gladiator NTX that I can fill in with key assignments (like there was for the Gladiator Mk. II)? Thanks very much everyone.

VKBDevCfg does whatever other joystick software on the market does and 3 times more. Here's how to set up curves, here's how to send buttons to keyboard and here's a config sheet for bindings made by our friend JusticeMKIII.

I always prefer to map joystick buttons to keystrokes. So I can control, for example, flaps or gear with the same joystick controls.

Thanks for the replys. I'm sorry, it appears my initial question was poorly worded. I meant to ask whether it is preferred to map keys with vkbconfig profiles or is it better using the actual flight sim program like DCS (for example) and using the in-game joystick mapping system. Thanks again.

Map keys with vkbconfig profiles!!!
Profile is stored in controller. Joystick trigger always will serve as BackSpace keystroke- in DCS, Great Battles or word processor. Once again - I've mapped button to "G". I know that in Flaming Cliffs, Battle of Moscow. Warthunder, Cliffs of Dover the only thing I must set to control landing gear is to bind it to "G" keystroke. Flaps, guns etc. have the same keystrokes. It is very comfortable.
