Gladiator non-PRO is now compatible with MCG/MCGPRO

Postby AeroGator » Fri Mar 02, 2018 13:51

We had announced (and reiterated) that the new Modern Combat Grips are only compatible with the PRO version of the Gladiator joystick.
Moreover, Gladiator itself, a robust and versatile budget device, is going to be discontinued.
We leaked some of our plans to launch a new line of budget joysticks...

HOWEVER, we keep receiving letters from Gladiator owners who are asking for ways to fit the MCG on the Gladiator base.

Here is a tiny device that would help Gladiator non-PRO owners to use their base with the newest grips.
The shaft itself, a connecting cable, two pre-installed bearings, and a lock bar.
It will take minutes to replace a plastic shaft with this metal one, reconnect the cable, and voila, you can continue using your Gladiator with a new grip.

WARNING: Please see the picture. MCG is taller than KG12, and if you opt to use it with a twist adapter, it will be yet even taller.
This might change the ergonomics of the joystick considerably, so please bear it in mind.

This is a one time offer; we will once produce a limited number of adapters, and that will be it.
How many will be made depends on how many people contact our dealers.
There will be no pre-orders, rather sort of 'wish list'.
These upgrade kits will be available around mid-April, and will retail for US$ 21 (unshipped).

OK, so at the moment I have a non-pro basic MkII Gladiator with a KG12 grip.

There is no chance for me to upgrade it and buy a Modern Combat Grip for that base?

Why, there is a chance, sure. We're preparing an adapter that would allow for such modernization/modification. There are some more urgent calls we need to answer first but when we're done with those we will take care of it.

Hey @AeroGator,
Just wondering if you can give us word on whether the Kosmosima will have an option to ship with the Gladiator non-pro adapter kit? Otherwise, for many of us, it may be useless to have a new grip and no way to attach it to our base....

Not from the beginning.
And hard to tell when.
The adapter kit is as much a new product as a grip itself: it demands time to design, develop, produce, test, etc., - in simple words as long as there are more urgent products to make, this adapter will remain in waiting.
We are not dumping it, however. Chances to see it coming are still pretty high. Time is what remains unclear.

@AeroGator,
Thanks for the quick response.
I understand the upgrade kit lite takes time to design, develop, etc.... It's been quite some time now since it was announced, and I understand you all have been focused on the Kosmosima. That looks like time and work well spent by the way!

I guess I am wondering how you all determine what is "more urgent." Are you all working through developing products in the order they have been announced? Or working on them in the order of biggest to smallest? Can you share how you all determine what is "more urgent" so that those of us waiting on products can understand a bit better what order things are progressing in? Are the throttle and twist higher on the list because they were announced first, or in higher demand, or...?

Thanks for your time and hard work! I really appreciate your communication. And I should add, I'm really excited to get a Kosmosima added to my set up! That's why I'm here asking questions. Just trying to understand my best route forward to that goal!
Cheers!

These are the key words, and I can't tell you how much we appreciate it.

Talking about our priority list, it depends on a hundred (I wanted to write, on a million - but decided to remain modest  ) variables of different nature.
It might also be useful to stop by and explain that people often take our kitchen talks as official "announcements" - which they by any means are not.

Kitchen talks: We sometimes share our vision of the gaming world's prospective and speculate on what devices might be appearing or becoming leading trend in foreseeable future. Of course, we also share our thoughts about whether or not we would be interested in developing certain devices to satisfy this future demand. Take it as half real life planning, half daydreaming.
Then as time goes by, some of these speculations happen to be wrong, and fall into oblivion. Some get pushed to the top, and naturally our engineers put aside their routine and assign higher priority to them. Some don't go anywhere, but our designers think of them in the background mode, and keep writing down ideas. Ideas are such a matter you know like nuclear fuel: once they accumulate in enough quantity, they explode :) - so a new device concept gets born.
Anything that comes out in these kitchen talks is not, and should never be seen as firm promise, leave alone timing for the devices in question.

Announcements: These come when the product is already being made and packed, and in a week or two will be marketed.

In the past we used to share our vision of the ETA of this or that product. People used to take it as firm promise. Hence, we put a tap on this leaking pipe, and are now strictly following "we will tell you when it is ready" policy.

Thanks for this clarification.

I understand the need for that decision.... but as an excited fan, I still sometimes wish the pipe would drip a leak or two more as things progress... :D :D :D Not dates so much as maybe pictures of testing in progress or the like.... :D I know they happen sometimes...

Thanks for your time and replies! I really appreciate it.
Cheers!
