SEM-V completely steath after failed(?) firmware flash

I recently flashed my VKB NXTs (one of them a merged device) to firmware v2.20.

In the process I also wanted to flash my SEM-V (standalone device) to the latest version.
I chose the correct firmware package, the flash seemed to work fine, the SEM-V restarted and then.... poof
"USB device cannot be indentified", device no longer there in VKBconfig, the whole show.

All lights on the SEM-V turn on correctly, but it seems to no longer have a hardware ID to be recognized by the OS on any level.

I tried the following.
- replugging on powered USB hub
- replugging directly on PC
- hardware reset on the device itself (button combination)
- change devioce # on the device itself (button combination)

but nothing works.
I have submitted a ticket but have not heard back for two weeks (oh look, a DCS pun :) ).

Does anyone have any idea what to do - I would really not want to consider this reliable and barely used module a write-off...

The SEM, like any other NXT module, can't work independently as a USB device - you'll either have to connect it to a Gladiator, like shown here, or upgrade it with a GNX HID Controller.

Thank you for the reply.
Well, of course my SEM V has a GNX HID, as you stated, otherwise it would have to be a merged device.
And as a standalone, it has been working flawlessly ever since I purchased it.

It was when I flashed the firmware to v2.20 (using the correct package), that the module - as described above - suddenly ghosted, despite a success message from the flash.

So again, my desperate plea for help remains.

What I have not done was take the GNX HID out, attempt to merge it with my LEFT Gladiatator NXT (that is already merged with a GNX THQ with WWII grip) - hopefully I will not have to try that, I will, but only if told to.

All I did was perform proper maintenance, and now my module is ghosting, as described - the hardware ID no longer transmits, not on OS level, not in the VKB suite, nothing.

Try the latest firmware and configurator from here.
The package contains a text file and an image, which you should review.

Thank you!

But - again - I must refer to my OP and my first reply -> how am I to flash anything if the SEM-V Module (with USB HID controller inside - and working flawlessly before the flash and still showing all lights when powered on) does..
  • no longer transmit a USB hardware ID
  • does thus not show up in zBootloader
  • does not show up in VKBDevCfg
  • does not show up in the device manager or any USB device checker

that is my problem, after doing a correct flash with the correct WHQL package from the manufacturer website (2.20C in that case) and a sucess message the device went inert when it comes to transmitting a hardware ID. And I have already tried all recommendations for replugging and hotstarting and even doing a button-press hardware reset.

So again, please help and advise (yes, I have made a ticket too which is as of now unanswered (for over a month as of today)

Disconnect the HID controller from the SEM and try flashing it. What firmware are you using? Show screenshots.
Show photos of the controller from both sides.

Sorry for the late reply, real life takes precedence.
Yes, that is what I thought too.. so naturally I went through all my Vkb boxes (dusty) and even found a second GNX HID but thus far not the original board I replaced 2-3 years ago. Sigh.
Because slaving it to anywhere (my left Evo fe) is imho the only thing that might, MIGHT override whatever is causing the hardware ID to - not be there.
I also think that mounting the different, sealed GNX HID I have lying around would amount to nothing.

So on the search goes wherever that orginal SEM-V board is lying around.

My ticket with VKB still is unanswered btw.

Also attempting to upload any file of any size as an attachmet throws a HTTP error, just my luck (but believe me, the HID is there)

P.S. HAHA, 300kb jpg finally worked. ALSO if anyone thinks replacing the HID with the second HID might solve the issue, please do not hesitate to tell me.
