VKB STECS and Gladiator NXT Evo likely fried

Postby Coldpaw » Thu Mar 26, 2026 23:13

Hey everyone,

I had a stupid accident and will cut straight to the case. I got a VKB Gladiator NXT Evo and a STECS STG Mini Plus. Both are connected to my PC using an active USB hub. Now I just moved, setup my PC at the new apartment, connected everything, however I grabed the wrong power adapter for my USB hub, instead of the 5V one, I plugged in the 12V one of my external Bluray drive. Now when I plugged in the power, I had both VKB controllers already connected, I actually was wondering why Windows wouldn't recognize both devices as connected, even though I kept plugging and unplugging them. I even tried a different USB-B to -A cable I had laying around.

I kept troubleshooting but realized the wrong power adapter way too late. The active USB hub still lights up but is dead, I can connect what I want, Windows doesn't recognize anything plugged into that hub.

As for the VKB devices, it looks like this:
  • VKB Gladiator NXT Evo: The right side blue LED on the base lights up, the stick itself stays dark. Windows 11 won't see the device regardless of being plugged into the mainboard (trying multiple ports) or my newly purchased active USB hub.
  • VKB STECS: After plugging in, the "ON"-LED flashes purple, the three LED (LOCK, DNT, ...) on the base light up white and the two LED on the grip light white-ish. After initialising, the "ON"-LED shows blue, DNT shows green (also switches off when moving the throttle) and the left one besides DNT is solid white. The two LED on the grip show blue and teal. Like the Gladiator, Windows won't see the controller at all, again regardless of being plugged into several ports directly to the mainboard or my new USB hub.

My question now: Are the controllers dead and do I need to order replacement or is there any chance of a "simple" repair? I am fully aware it was my own fault, yet I am looking for a solution, if maybe just a PCB need to get replaced, I'd happily pay for a replacement rather than ordering two new units.

  • Graphics: Sapphire Radeon 9070 XT Nitro+
  • OS: Windows 11
  • USB Devices: EVO80 keyboard, Redragon M918 mouse, Soundblaster G8, Sabrent 4-port active USB hub

Try connecting joysticks on another machine, a laptop.

If they don't work on another computer please go for a service ticket, we'll provide whatever it needs to get them working again.
