Firmware update and chip version

Postby Virroo » Fri Dec 05, 2025 21:19

Hello,

On November 9th 2025 I purchased the VKB SCG Omni L and VKB SCG Premium R. There is no production date on the box or on the joysticks themselves. The only thing I see is the inscription 26'25 on the PCB, which I assume means the production date 26th week (June) of 2025. Based on this, should I use the firmware version without a date? That's how I understand it.

I'd also like to add that I see the KMZ49 chip on the pcb, which I believe is used in the "normal version". As far as I know, the KMZ41 chip was used during the supply problems caused by COVID, but I don't know which firmware version is intended for the KMZ41, is it before 11_2022 or before 04_2025. Also what is the difference between before 4/25 and version without the date, still kmz41 vs kmz49?

I'm having trouble deciding which one should I use because my joysticks behave the same on every firmware version (before 11/22, before 4/25, and without a date). The axes work identically, and there are no issues with the mini throttle. However, with the firmware version without a date, I have a feeling that the right joystick acts strangely, but this is probably just the placebo effect.

To sum up: Is the 26'25 the production date, and if so, should I use the firmware version without a date?

Have a nice day, Albert.

The firmware without a date should be what you need. Also, there was no need to reflash it as soon after receiving it.
If you'd flash the wrong firmware you'd get axes not working, so most probably the issues with the right joystick are not firmware related. In case the axes are jumping around in tester this is because there's a strong EMI source nearby, like a router, wifi extender, Alexa etc.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply and the EMI info, seems that was the reason.

However, my left base came with the firmware for a standard stick. Flashing the correct one gave me the default values/deadzones for the Omni stick, which is mandatory for my left hand setup. Saying I didn't need to reflash was a bit misleading. I know I could manually tweak everything, or search/ask, but a quick 10-second upgrade with the correct version was a better and much faster solution. This also helps with how I see the sticks in game options, plus it provides some minor fixes, like no need to turn on the thumb stick after every restart/reconnect.

I understand that "before 11/2022" is ruled out, but the "before 4/2025" version was a possibility, especially when considering the re/new-stock delivery dates mentioned in the news section. The support ticket stated that the firmware was new enough, and the next reply just provided a generic link to the firmware package, leading me back to the same problem. This forced me to guess which version to use. A small informational sticker on the box would easily resolve this (there is even a place for it). I was ultimately forced to dismantle my entire mounting system just to find the production date on the PCB. Sorry, I'm just a bit frustrated by this process ;)

Have a nice day, Albert

By and large, earlier firmware versions (up to 22) have differences in XY axis inversion.
The latest version has been adapted to the sticks used for dead zones.
We are working on a unified firmware and automatic production date detection (this is theoretically possible).

Unfortunately, too rapid development of models and adaptation of production creates inconvenience for everyone and the solution is not always obvious.
