Question 2D Circular DzHi

Postby DeadWalking » Mon Apr 07, 2025 6:04

Ran into a situation helping over on Discord where a user couldn't get DzHi to show any affects on their desired axes.

The user utilizes 2D Circular DzLo, for avoiding a Dz lock crossing center for Rotational axes in Star Citizen X=Yaw, Y=Pitch.
They also wanted to set a DzHi value for both axes, matching in value, but found it had no affect on the test page. Even after attempting some calibrations, for good measure.

I tested on my setup on both sides, and found it affected my axes which are all running Ordinal for DzLo.

So we tested if they also saw a change to the affect of DzHi by changing their DzLo to 2d Crucial and Ordinal also. Both tests showed the DzHi functioning.

I was going to make a bug report on the Discord for fallout9/Operator to send up the chain, but I got to wondering if it wasn't an intended side affect of how the 2D Circular DzLo works.

Just kind of curious if it is intended or a bug.
Almost seems like there should be a 2D Circular applied to DzHi for the selected axes Automatically after clicking 'Ok' on the DzLo box with a 2D Circular setting.

Edit: Though that could be odd. LOL. Just realized that would cut the corners of the axis ranges at full deflections.
Maybe it shouldn't be an auto Circular after all, but it would be cool if the DzHi could affect the 2D Circular DzLo though.

Side Question on the DzLo Settings.
Not sure if I missed it mentioned anywhere in documentation or not, but what is the difference between 2D Crucial and Ordinal?

I believe the 3 DzLo options became available after the last manual update.
Only Help Center info on it is for POVs page Dz settings.

Edit: After stewing on it for a while.
It kind of hit me for the Ordinal/2D Crucial difference.
2D Crucial just allows combining 2 shared axes with a single deadzone versus setting an Ordinal individually for each.
Ordinal being specifically for a single axis range.
LOL not sure why that didn't just click before, but I got the second question sorted.

Still curious on the DzHi for 2D Circular.

Jukelo over on Discord yesterday, did remind about being able to tweak KdHi and KdLo to fake a DzHi value for axes using 2D Circular DzLo setting.
I hadn't considered that originally as a workaround.

Not exactly the same but does accomplish the desired settings.
Also depends on being able to raise the KdHi/KdLo values. If one is already really close to 255 it may not gain as much DzHi as was desired in one direction of that axis range.

If you run oud of Kd to increase you can always adjust the MPL. Bump it by 1 and you can halve the Kd values.
