Lock axis trim and release for helicopters

Postby TG67 » Mon Aug 12, 2024 10:22

To control helicopters, I would like to lock the pitch axis (TRIM HOLD) and release it again later (TRIM RELEASE). I've already read about this in this forum and got it to work in principle.

However, I need 2 buttons for this, one for fixing the axis and one for releasing it.

1. Is it possible to put "Fix Axis" and "Trimmer RESET" on the same button: 1st click to fix, 2nd click to release?

2. Can I also assign this to virtual keys that I use in SHIFT mode?

Take a look at this solution, maybe it will suit you.
So, in order.
1. We make the Tempo 2 button (two logical buttons) from the HAT-down, which will turn on the FA0 mode with a short press and turn it off with a long press (the TrRst button).

2. Using a jumper in the Boolean, we bring both buttons to the physical level for further assignment of the FA0 and TrRst functions to them.

The duration of the transition from short to long is adjusted here. Also on this tab you can select the FA0 M2 mode, which is much more convenient than M1, in that there is no jump when activating this function.

3. We can disable the display of the operation of buttons 13 and 42 when switching modes.
To do this, you need to disable button 25 at the physical level, put a Viod for button 42 at the logical level and change L13 to V25 in the Boolean.

Now that's it.

Thank you very much for this detailed answer.

I think I have understood 70% of it. Before I try it out and it takes a lot of time, could you send me your CFG data where I can look at it and try it out?

By the way: Is there actually a manual where all these things like FA0, TEMPO 2, FA0 M2 are explained?

Here is a guide (and the latest software), it may not keep up with new features that appear faster in new firmware.
You only need to repeat the described actions on your joystick, having previously saved your configuration (Save button) for quick recovery.

After some thought, I think it's better not to use a "Tempo 2" button, because you can only use one of the two functions at a time. After all, it often happens that the trim value is set several times.

I would therefore like a button to set the fix axis and the same button with SHIFT to reset the axis. But the SHIFT button is a virtual button and I don't think you can program the trim reset on virtual buttons?

How do I convert the virtual button into a physical one first?

I would prefer that:
Button 3 -> virtual button 81 with -> fix axes
Shift + button 3 -> virtual button 82 with -> reset axes

I read it a couple of times, but still didn't get the message above.
Let me explain - to turn on the FA0 mode, you need a button, to turn on the TrRst reset, you also need a button, so two.
They are exactly what you get in the above profile example and work with one finger.
To use Shift, you need another finger or another hand (if Shift is assigned on another device) - which, in my opinion, is not so convenient.
Here, everyone has their own preferences and it is difficult to please everyone.
You can try the option with one single assigned FA0 button, but with the M4 mode and a convenient time to return to the center of the handle in the Rls Time parameter.
In this mode, a short press will activate FA0 and within the specified time you need to return the grip to the center and a long press will reset the axis.

Yes, FA0 + M4 is almost perfect, but the return delay time on reset (long press) does not work. A long press immediately resets the axis to 0. That is not so nice.

That's why I would like to use two buttons - actually one that is assigned twice with SHIFT. Without SHIFT to set the axis with FA0+M1 once or again, and with SHIFT for TrRst. But I think you can only set this to two different psyical buttons. Or is there a trick?

It's not a problem to do it with an additional Shift button, but it's less convenient for me.
Shift is set to the 11th physical button (just select the Momentary mode).

We set up the 25th like this:
25+Shift.jpg

and then in Boolean using a jumper (Not) we transmit to the physical level like this:
Shift+Boolean.jpg

Then, so that they don't light up, we can muffle them (Void)
25,42 - Void.jpg

We get the following general picture:

Short feedback: Couldn't try it out yet. I'm currently working on another technical problem. I'll get back to you.
