Original gladiator nxt premium grips buttons not reliable

Postby Alb1n0_Rh1n0 » Fri Jul 26, 2024 17:14

I got my first set of vkb flight sticks the other day. Used pair of gladiator nxt premium left and right with nxt bases. Really condition. Using for star citizen and everything was easy to set up but I'm having issues with all of the button type inputs on the grips so all the hats and joysticks, and the triggers. The axes all work just fine. The issue is sometimes the button works with one press others times it takes 2 or 3 or 9 clicks to work. Sometimes it seems like a double click is registered, when using the joystick as a hat for example if I push it all the way right it turns the binding I have it set to on and then right off, but if I barely press it or do a quick input it works as just the one click. Same thing happens with the main trigger. When turning on the mining laser sometimes it turns on and then quickly off. Issue is with both sticks exact same thing.

I haven't fiddled with it much yet but I tried returning to default restarting and recalibrating but no change. The previous owner said he flashed to the current firmware but I haven't confirmed that. Going to flash it tonight but just curious if there's any knowledge of this issue or if there a quick fix someone is aware of that can pass on to my Inexperienced self

Resetting to default, initializing and calibrating should make it good for game. Try the buttons and axes in tester first to make sure everything works well. If tester looks fine and you still have issues in game, then the issue is on game's side - revise your bindings.

Thanks for the reply. I did all that and not any difference whatsoever. I reflashes twice. Reset to default and calibrated probably 4 times and everytime even in the tester it showed the same thing. A delay with every button type input from the button press to the output showing on the tester. But not every time I'd say about half the time. Did a lot of trouble shooting tried to change some response times to see if it made a difference but nothing. As a last resort I had the thought to unplug the sticks from my powered usb 3.0 hub and go straight to the back of the motherboard. Major difference. Basically fixed now just the very very odd time a button input doesn't register fast enough in game but good enough to play. Still not perfect though so I'm curious if you happen to know if changing the cable or possibly even the USB PCB would make a difference? I'm doubting because it's the exact same thing on both sticks so I'm doubting hardware. Would some kind of pcie USB card give higher priority of a signal to the PC maybe? I haven't updated my bios in a while so I could check that too. Either way it's definitely something with the way the sticks are communicating with my PC. the sticks I think are totally fine hardware wise

I would suggest completely reinstalling your USB drivers (not only update, but remove and reinstall) and also updating bios and mb's chipset drivers.

I just wanted to send an update to this thread. After what I said about plugging the stick into the motherboard directly it did indeed help but with further testing and some more time it was still a pretty unplayable experience. I took some time away playing some other games but before I jumped back in again I thought I would check and see if there a firmware update. There was and after flashing and calibrating everything works 100 percent now with no problems whatsoever. Buttons are snappy and I love these sticks so much. Really not sure how a firmware update was the issue but now that I have a stable playing experience I am very happy.
