Vintage Mamba + Warthog not recognized any more

Hello, I'm in a pickle and I hope someone can help.
It started when I wanted to upgrade the firmware of my Vintage Mamba (with Warthog stick attachment) to play nice with Beyond ATC.
It was still using the old 1.79.3 firmware. SO I downloaded the v2.16.5 and did the upgrade with my existing VKBDevCfg.
But after upgrading, the Warthog buttons did not work any more. After searching, I realized my version of VKBDevCfg and ZBootloader2 were old too. So I installed the latest and did the firmware update + Warthog profile (this one still in 1.79.3 version).
Result: a couple of the buttons worked but not the rest.
So I told myself "might as well revert to the old 1.79.3 firmware that at least worked with everything else but BeyondATC's PTT asssignment!
...and now when I launch VKB Device COnfig, I get a "Error read CPUID" and I can't do anything else on the Mamba.

So I'm stuck.
