Using NXT Joystick encoders as Trimmers

I want to use the 2 encoders on my NXT joystick as trimmers, and have followed the instructions on the YouTube video to set them up as trimmers. I have tested them with the VJoy tester and I can see that they are working as trimmers on the X and Y axes, but when I test them on the VKBDefConfig axis test page they do not show up.
