Kosmosima (SCG) Grip, Twist Malfunctioning

Postby Mil-Spec » Sat Oct 28, 2023 7:21

I purchased this stick back in 2019. In 2020 one of the three wires broke at the soldering point on the three-pin connector at the base (not my photo but mine looked the same).

This caused my twist axis to stop working correctly. I re-soldered the wired and it worked great until recently when I started having twist issues again. I figured it was the 3-pin connector again, but my soldering job was still holding up. I purchased a new SCG grip conversion kit

to replace the current one in my stick, still thinking it was the 3-pin connector within this part that was bad. After replacing it, I am still having the same issue. The twist axis will stick, and not respond when twisting the stick.

If I jiggle the twist axis enough it will work again, but still freezes from time to time and jumps around. I have recalibrated it more times than I can count and used the default setting, and still, it will start malfunctioning again. I'm starting to think it's the MaRS sensor itself that might be bad? Like I said, I replaced the entire internal twist assembly with a brand-new unit and the twist axis is still malfunctioning. I did submit a help ticket, but I wanted to also check here to see if any of you had advice, or have dealt with the same issue and have been able to fix it. Thanks,

Did you followed the whole procedure for flashing and calibrating, using the latest firmware and software? Are you sure the sensor board is not out of place?

I followed the walkthrough and updated my firmware to the newest version.

I also followed the walkthrough for recalibrating the stick.

I tore the stick apart and pulled the circuit board where the MaRS center is located just above the magnet on the twist assembly and made sure all the other circuit boards connected to it were all properly seated along with the MaRS board.

I am still getting the same issue. Here is a video after following all the above steps. It will seem to work fine after recalibrating it and then after a while, this happens:

Here are more screen shots if it helps.

The only thing I didn't check is if the brand-new twist assembly that I just installed also has a broken wire that is making intermittent contact like my old one was. But what are the odds of that?!

Additionally, the mating surface on the base is clean and the three prongs at the base of the joystick look good and have a spring action to them as they should.

Okay, I think I found the culprit. Here is the video showing the issue. https://youtu.be/-l3CcJ4e4S8?si=GMrwDT-Fuc-wq4Y3
I believe it's going to be one of these three areas that is causing the issue. Although visually inspecting it, and feeling the pins, I can't see anything wrong.
How do I go about getting new boards for the two pieces photographed below? Here is my support ticket number: (#7669 Twist is not working). I also replied to my support ticket asking the same question. Thanks!

Seems like an imperfect contact in that area. Stick to the ticket please, they'll send you the boards.
Good find btw.
