Best movement pattern for calibration

What's the best movement pattern for calibrations (i.e. in what pattern should we move the stick/ministick during calibration)?
+ (left-right up-down)
X (Cross)
O (Circular)
Combining all of the above?

Cross would be fine, but don't push against the frame at max range.
