Left stick is dead ... Again (VKB gladiator NXT)

Postby Kinrau » Fri Nov 04, 2022 0:57

So the left stick has died on me one other time right after I got it and VKB sent me a replacement PCB. Shortly after I quit gamming for several months and just started back up today.

I updated the firmware on the right stick just fine but when I went to do it for the left stick it now says "error read CPUID". I have already attempted unplugging and and plugging back in the stick as well as the F1 F2 F3 reset thing and its just dead no lights or anything. When I open VKBevCfg-C.exe it now says "VKB Boot NJOY platform v00.56" as the name of the device. If I attempt to use the Bootloader tool with that device selected it tells me "Device not ready" at the top and it does nothing when I try and click the "flash it!" button.

The only reason I did the firmware update was because the stick was acting goofy in my game. Like they just quit being recognized randomly.

Anyone have any ideas on what to try next?

Plug directly into the mobo (no hubs, no extensions), run VKBDevCfg/zBootloader as Admin, kill background running software (especially utilities like Aorus, Razer, Corsair, Logitech, any LED management), have only that NXT plugged in, make sure you're selecting the device in the device list of VKBDevCg/zBootloader before attempting to flash.

Ok so I tried all of that with no luck. I did however get it fixed...

I had to use the "boot" jumper pins to fix the issue. Steps I took to resolve the issue.

1) unplug device
2) remove base plate
3) locate "boot" jumper pins
4) open VKBDevCfg.exe
5) Jump the boot pins and plug in the device keep pins jumped with a metal tool or a jumper pin connector
6) plug the device back in
7) select the device from the list at the top
8) click bootloader icon
9) pick the correct file in the zBootloader utility
10) click Flash it! button
11) unjump the pins as soon as the update starts
12) if you timed it right and it all worked out reassemble the stick and play games.

I had to be very specific on when I removed the jumper from the pins to get it to work but it did. The stick works again and is listed correctly in VKBDevCfg.exe

I hope this information can help save somebody else some time later.
