Gladiator NXT EVO Omnithrottle Not Waking Up

Postby Flopsy » Sun Oct 16, 2022 13:35

My recently purchased device is driving me mad by not always waking up after my PC has slept. Unplugging and reconnecting gets it going again but that's not acceptable. I have tried different USB sockets(3.0, 3.1 and 3.2) but no improvement.
My PC is a Lenovo Legion T7i desktop with the latest BIOS; the problem existed with the original BIOS also. Windows Device Manager Properties reports "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed."

I am not experiencing any problems with other USB devices.
I have already tried running VKBDevCfg again and re-calibrating but after a further computer sleep the joystick failed to wake up again.
I don't know what to do, please help.

Could be that the joystick is connected to a charging USB port. Make sure you’ll connect it to a data USB port, no extension or hub.
Also, revise your USB settings.

Thanks for the quick response, my PC lists the USB ports as follows:- 1 x USB 3.26 Gen 2 (Type-A), 10 Gbps
4 x USB 3.26 Gen 1 (Type-A), 5 Gbps
I would think that they are data ports as they mention transfer speeds. There are also two 2 x USB 2.0 which I have also tried.
In what way should I revise the USB settings please?

Thanks again but my pc was only delivered on 20/09/2022 and is running the latest version of Windows 11 Home including the updates it installed after being fired up for the first time. I would have thought that mistakes made in Win 10 shouldn't be repeated in Win 11.
I did raise a query with Lenovo on 10/10/2022 and all they could suggest was updating the PC's BIOS; I've done that and it didn't help.
When checking Device Manager, both before and after plugging in the joystick, I notice no change to the list apart from it 'blinking' as it refreshed. The joystick name isn't listed anywhere as my old Thrustmaster one was, not under Human Interface Devices or Sound, Video and Game Controllers. I have changed the Power Management setting for the 'Intel(R) USB 3.2 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.20 Microsoft' by unticking the option to 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. I have noticed that the lights in the Omnithrottle both go out when the computer enters sleep so I will do a Re-start and see if anything changes.
As an aside the charging ports are on the top of my PC, I am using the ports on the rear panel.
It's all a bit strange but I am becoming suspicious of how the joystick handles the 'powering-up' of the USB ports after Sleep.
If the problem persists after I do the Restart I propose to unplug this joystick and plug my old Thrustmaster unit into the same port and see if that fails to wake up after a sleep. That could indicate whether the problem is related to the USB port or the device connected to it...

Or maybe you have another computer or laptop around so you could test on that too?

Sorry but my old desktop is no longer viable and my laptop is a Chromebook. My old Thrustmaster joystick had no issues whatsoever with my old PC so I'm confident that it will point us in the right direction.
Is it correct that the VKB joystick doesn't identify itself in Device Manager btw?

Attached as requested. At the moment the joystick is waking up(five times in succession so far) but bear in mind that I have stopped Windows powering this USB controller down for the present. I think I might allow the controller to be put to sleep(the default in Windows) and see what happens.

Have just woken the PC after earlier allowing the USB controller to sleep. As you can see from the attached, the joystick failed to wake up.
When the controller was not allowed to sleep the joystick lights would go out as the PC went to sleep but would light up once the pc was woken up. It beggars belief that I might have to keep the USB controller awake to ensure that the joystick will function correctly, what happened to energy saving?
Just exactly what happens when a PC goes to sleep and which data lines etc does the joystick need to ensure that it wakes up along with all the other devices? Why isn't the joystick responding to Windows' request for its identity?

What software are you running in the background? Turn off anything that resembles Razer, Logitech, Aorus, Corsair, any LED management software, any Lenovo native software and try again. Or simply restart in Safe Mode and let it sleep. It could be that something blocks it from waking up.

Hi, please don't think I've lost interest it's just that domestic matters are taking precedent at the moment.
I did yesterday start the PC in Safe Mode and after about 40 minutes of sleeps and wake-ups(2 minutes to sleep) the joystick woke up every time.
Out of curiosity I ran the Show HID utility whilst in Safe Mode and noticed that the line beginning 046D/C232 [Ver. 00.01] was absent; I don't know if that is relevant.
With respect to the Logitech Gaming Software, that was only installed the day before yesterday so cannot be implemented as the fault has been here since day one.
When time permits I will contact Lenovo about which of their services I can 'End Task' safely and run some more tests.
Thanks for the support so far, I will be in touch.

Thanks for the update. Pretty sure you won't get any relevant replies from Lenovo, but you could try yourself to find out what software creates the issue by eliminating background running programs one by one until you'll find the culprit. Please update the post once you'll find that, it might help others too.

This morning when I switched the PC on the joystick failed to start. This has happened a few times but is intermittent not consistent. I then ended all Lenovo tasks in Task Mgr and left the PC to sleep. When I woke it again the joystick still wouldn't wake up. I have unplugged and re-plugged the joystick in and it has for the first time today lit up. There is an inconsistency in whether the joystick picks up Windows' request to identify itself whether it is when the PC is started for the day or after the machine has slept. Perhaps your technical staff could have a think about that please.
The Lenovo software would seem to be 'innocent'.

Kill all those utilities first, then let the computer go to sleep and see how the joystick acts. If the joystick works fine when the computer wakes in Safe Mode it makes sense to consider that something goes wrong when the computer loads up all utilities.
