Gunfighter Mk.II Axes dead - 100% communications error
Hello
I have a Gunfighter Mk.II with MCG Pro EN grip bought in 2018 - lot 1017\01. Unfortuanately the joysticks axis are completely dead while all buttons on the stick including axis still work.
I have done the following
- flashed the stick to current firmware version v2.11.5 and re-calibrated the stick
- visually verified cable connections in joystick housing and connections between blackbox and joystick base
VKB Device Config showing 100% communications error to GF base
Any ideas?

Post the screenshot with the whole window please.
Re: Gunfighter Mk.II Axes dead - 100% communications error
Hello fallout9
here is the screenshot. Actually after todays reboot of my pc the sistuation changed and the communication error is gone BUT the axis still do not react.
Situation after reboot
Situation after reboot - Axes 1 window - Note: X/Y/Z axis are at maximum
After the above situation I tried to calibrate the joystick again. I did not get any response in the Axes view of VKBDevCfg-C. Axes of the base are still completely dead.

Re: Gunfighter Mk.II Axes dead - 100% communications error
Have you pressed the Default button before calibration?
Re: Gunfighter Mk.II Axes dead - 100% communications error
Hello
thank you for the feedback. Actually I did not press the Default button before I did the calibration yesterday. So I just wanted to try it again. Plugged the joystick back in the computer, started VKBDevCfg and unfortunately I am now back a square one. The GF base shows 100% communication error. I tried to reconnect most of the cable without any success. I am stuck with 100% comm error again.
I also tried calibration with the GF base showing 100% comm error (pressed Default before) but this doesnt change anything. The axes do no react to input.

Re: Gunfighter Mk.II Axes dead - 100% communications error
I have tried additional troubleshooting steps now
- connected Blackbox to different USB port
- verified all cables for obvious loose connection
- opened cable protector on conncetors between base and blackbox and verified for loose connections as well (visual inspection only)
- Flashed device with ZBootloader2 again

Unplug all the white connectors inside the base and check if the wires are snug inside those connectors. Plug them back firmly. Connect the base at USB and jiggle at those wires to see if it makes a difference.
Re: Gunfighter Mk.II Axes dead - 100% communications error
Hi
cables in white connectors are seemingly snug and fit well. Reconnecting and or jiggling the connectors does not change anything.
I tried switching cables 1 and 2 as well to see if this makes any difference (see pic below). I still have 100% comm error on the base.

Re: Gunfighter Mk.II Axes dead - 100% communications error
How about checking the wire connections at each side of each connector? Could be something has worked loose there. It might seem like the connector halves, the white plastic parts, are making a firm fit but one of the pins at the end of the wire has worked it's way out of the connector slightly. Take the connectors apart and give each of the three wires a gentle tug. It should stay put and be fairly firm, not moving around a lot. If it doesn't, push it back in until you feel/hear it click. Just a thought. Clearly something isn't connecting somewhere. Really strange having this happen with just the base axii tho.
This shouldn't happen on its own unless you'd taken the connectors apart at some point prior to this happening but I don't see where you've said that.
Try plugging it in with the grip removed and see what the comms tab says then.

Re: Gunfighter Mk.II Axes dead - 100% communications error
Hello Drano
thx for the input. I have verified each of the 4 cables going into the white connector. Eeach cable seems to be correctly attached and is NOT loose. I can move each cable for 1/2mm and can also see the end of the cable moving inside the white connectors. They do look absolutely fine to me.
If I remove the grip from the base. VkbCfg will show me 100% comm error for both grip and base.

Re: Gunfighter Mk.II Axes dead - 100% communications error
Yeah was worth a shot. So weird tho. The comms come from the grip thru the base thru the BB to the PC and the software. You have comms to the grip but somehow it's skipping the base! That's a new one. I can't make sense of it. Only reason I threw that dart at the board is I have the same grip but MkI Rev A. I did the PCB upgrade and found a pair of the wires had been reversed. Stick died if the grip was on it but was fine with it off. Ran into the same problem when I added a 200mm extension and found the same thing (pair of wires crossed between connectors) on it with a tester. So I got a quick education on those little connectors! I'll be following this to see how it gets resolved.
