[FIXED] EVO-L and SEM connection issue

Postby james340 » Thu Sep 15, 2022 1:18

Hi there, I'm having the same issue as described in this thread http://forum.vkb-sim.pro/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=6459&start=15.

My L EVO has the SEM connected on the right-hand side, and will occasionally stop being recognised by VKBconfig/Windows, and the default top blue LED is off. There is still power to the unit, as the F3 light on the EVO is lit. Unplugging the SEM has the EVO L showing up as usual, and holding down the SEM's B1+2+3 buttons when plugging it in puts it into setup mode, so that's all working and receiving power.

I've updated the EVO to 2.103, and my SEM is plugged into the bottom 3 pins of the connector in the EVOs base, but the issue seems to persist. I noticed in the bottom of the linked thread it mentions a 'patch' for a software issue - is that just the v2.103? Or is there a specific patch I need to resolve this?

EDIT: I've just downloaded and installed the new software (2.115) on my EVO L, and the new VKB config (0.92.33) but the issue remains.

-----------------------FIXED-----------------------

Process to fix this issue.

1) Upgrade all firmware if needed - https://vkbcontrollers.com/?page_id=4609
2) Unplug the EVO's USB connection, and disconnect the SEM from the EVO base
3) Plug the EVO base back in, then in VKB config, click on 'Tools', and hit the 'Default' button
4) Unplug the EVO base USB cable, plug the SEM connection back into the bottom 3-pin connector
5) Hold down F1 and F3 on the EVO base, and watch the left red LED as you plug it in. Keep holding down the F1 and F3 buttons until it has a fast flash (about 3 seconds-ish)
6) Ignore the 'calibrate' pop-up, click on the 'External' tab, and down to the 'Find & Auto config' option
7) Calibrate the device - then you should be good to go!

Try plugging directly to the back of computer; if the issue persists swap a few USB ports.

Tried every port my laptop has several times, same issue persists. The base F3 LED lights up, and the top LEDs are white and red at start-up, but then turn off. No LEDs on the SEM work except when I hold down B1+2+3, but after pressing C1, they're all non-responsive.

Neither Windows nor VKB config or bootloader can see the device when my SEM is plugged in. When the SEM is unplugged, the EVO is detectable and works fine.

Shifting the SEM connection onto the left-hand side port of the EVO seems to work, as the device is detectable as an EVO SEM unit, but setting it up there and shifting it back to the right port makes it undetectable again.

Looks good. Let's move on Discord to speed this up, buzz VKB Operator.
