Just as I thought I had mastered the software, I've hit another problem!
I have a Gladiator NXT plus SEM , and wish to set up IL2 GB settings as:
Fire weapon group 1 - NXT trigger
Fire weapon group 2 - Button A2 (the red button).
That had been working perfectly until I started fiddling around to refine some of the buttons/LEDs. I now find there is a problem that when I set A2 (red button) as 'Fire Weapon group' 2 in Key Settings, it is accepted but in game nothing happens when I press the button. When I press A2 in the Config 'test' screen it shows up as button No. 12, in 'physical layer' it shows up as button No 12, button with momentary action, and in 'logical layer' it shows up as button No 12, joystick button No 12.
Where have I gone wrong?

So many things that could go wrong I suggest to press the Default button, then the Find&AutoConfig one to return to factory settings and rebuild your custom profile; save it when it works as intended, so you could use it to get back to it if you're messing it up.

Well I pressed default and FindAutoConfig as suggested, went back to the game settings and reset all the key settings, including A2 to Fire Weapon Group 2 - and no joy! Everything else works fine, and all joystick buttons and axes have mapped properly to functions and they are all working - except for button A2! I'm at a loss. Checking Config again:
Test button A2 shows up as button No3
Physical layer shows A2 as button 12
Logical layer shows A2 as No12 Joystick button 3

Does that provide any clues as to what's happening?

If the A2 button flashes as button 3 when pressing it in Test/Buttons then then it should be fine in game too. Try to bind it to other control, one that works on other button.

Just to close off this thread, I swapped the settings between A1 and C1 as you suggested - the setting previously on C1 (map mode toggle) worked perfectly on A1, but the 'Fire Wpn Gp 2' still didn't work on the C1 button, so proving that the problem wasn't the NXT, but a glitch in the game. I had been using a Hurricane, so loaded a different plane and - lo and behold - everything was working (as did the Hurricane when I tried it again but with a different weapon configuration). So there is a glitch in the IL2 GB Hurricane with a 2 x 12.7mm BS/2 x 20mm ShVAK configuration which I'll report in their forum.
