GNX+THQ what to do with overflow axis?

Postby Uniform300 » Sat Aug 06, 2022 13:01

Hi all, I bought the gladiator nxt premium right joystick(bought February 2, 2021) then bought the THQ module later(bought on November 29, 2021) for the throttle axis in games and slapped it on the joystick, and at the time updated the firmware to v 2.09.0(at the time my PC was windows 10 pro and all was fine windows was seeing it as one device no problem even thou it has more than 8 axes. Fast forward to two days ago (August 4, 2022) I plugged my right joystick into the same PC which was upgraded to windows 11 pro early this year with a fresh install, and my right sick is duplicated into two devices with the same name but one of the sliders on the thq module is all by itself on the second device as in the attached pic.

So I thought I needed to update to 2.11.5 firmware fix because up to now it did not do this even though I had 9 axes(8 being the max) but updating did nothing. So my question is, how do I fix this either thru removing one of the other axes I don't use (I don't use the slider on the base) and replacing it with the slider on the module in the software or any other way?

This is normal. There are 6 axes on the Gladiator NXT joystick and 3 axes on the THQ, which brings the total to 9 axes for your device; that exceeds Windows' limitation of 8 axes per device. Hence, the software automatically splits your unit into 2 virtual controllers - one with all buttons and 8 axes and the second with the extra axis.

ok I understand, but how do I rework this to replace one of the axes on the main device with the one that is on it own device and then get rid of the 2nd device from windows hid

Be calibrated and set the VC to No in Global Common panel,

then change AxID for axis number 4 (the minithrottle on the EVO) to 9 and for axis number 9 (the third throttle on the THQ) to 4 and press Set.

But again, no reason to do that.

why would there be no reason to do that? If I leave it games will show two sticks with the exact same name and for games like star citizen it will get very annoying/confusing very quickly.

SC is confusing even with 2 completely different joysticks, as it doesn't label them after their PID/HID, but as Joystick0, 1 etc. Hopefully they'll fix that soon.
Was just a suggestion.

they did sort fix it in the recent patch now when selecting them it shows them as the same name as what is seen on the web software but the only downside is the name is so long all u can see is a gladiator nxt and the rest of the name is cut off. which leads to my second is there a way to change the name the USB gamepad on windows show.

Nah, it's the same. The only place where you could see your joystick's names is when you run i_DumpDeviceInformation. And even that is confusing, because it's labeling the joysticks to Joystick 0 to 3, while in Settings they're Joystick 1 to 4 :(
