Adjusting the NXT Evo grip's "twist angle"?

I'm currently trying to set up my KG-12 Evo in a central mount configuration. I still have some fiddling (and buying *sigh*) to do for that, but I did find the grip in its regular configuration a bit uncomfortable when the stick is between my legs. Ideally, I'd love to be able to rotate the grip around to the left a few degrees. Meaning: In the grip's normal position the trigger is lined up with the base's 12oc, and I'd want it lined up with somewhere between 10:30 to 11:30.
Since there's no obvious way of doing this built-into the stick, I was wondering if it would be possible to take out the three screws fixing the grip to the gimbal, pull the grip out, rotate it and reinsert it at an offset angle and then re-fitting the three screws to fix it in this rotated position. Or will the grip only slide into the gimbal in the default, "12oc" position? Plus it might not even be a solution to this, since I'd probably have to rotate the grip way further than 10:30 to 11:30 before the three holes line up again, so ...
I tried rotating the whole stick, base and all, already, but since that also rotates the X- and Y-axes, it does alter the way the stick handles and wouldn't really fix my "problem".
